    3. Judi -- This is Susan -- ancestry.com is supposed to have passenger records from 1851-1891. I took a one-month membership to genealogy.com passenger records but really haven't found anything. I looked for your surname too but didn't find anything. I am toying with the idea of trying a free fourteen day membership at ancestry.com. You have to be careful with that one because if you don't cancel in time, you will own $199.00 worth of genealogy records for the year. It's easy to cancel but you must remember you can't cancel over the weekend. Then if I found it was worth pursuing, I could take a quarterly membership to the passenger records. I've been searching on ancestry.com -- if you put in a name, it will come up with listings of everything they have on that name. Then you can click on it and get a listing of the individual names but no more information. You must purchase the membership to get the details. I suspect with my family surnames, they might not be in the index. That would mean reading through many passenger records. That's why I'm still toying with the idea -- I don't know if I have the time right now for that. For my final thought -- and maybe others have already read the records. With genealogy.com you don't read the actual records; you read an excerpt. My understanding is that with ancestry.com you can read the actual passenger records. Would appreciate any information on this from someone who has done this. Hope this helps you Judy. If not, just ask. Susan W.

    3. Dear Judi and Susan, I have used ancestry.com for years now and it has saved me a lot of time with my research. As for the passenger records-more are being added monthly and they are slowly being linked to the actual passenger manifests. Some are just basic and some give more than that. I don't know for sure which ones are linked as of yet. The 14 day trial is worth it but make sure you are very organized before hand and have lots of spare time to do your searching as you will quickly realize how much is there that you just "have" to get at! And of course remember to cancel before the 14 days is up. Many of the pay genealogy sites have the two week free trial offer. I do like the searching capabilities offered at ancestry.com. You can search in so many different ways that you are sure to come up with something useful. As for me-I have been able to find many ancestors in the ship records and have been unable to find many as well. Sometimes it is just due to the indexing or handwriting, for others I suppose the records aren't there yet or are just not available. Hope this helps. If you have any more questions please email me privately. 3. Thanks Carrie -- I was hoping someone like you would write. If more records are being added it might be worthwhile for me to wait. I have taken some of the free memberships which has led me to then to take longer memberships. I'm finding they are also making it quite easy to cancel -- you used to have a long wait for someone to answer the phone or eventually get on the line. Just remember -- you can never cancel over the weekend! Now they are very polite and helpful -- of course, always trying to get you to subscribe to another service. Thanks. Susan W.
