Kristin, What a wonderful surprise to see so many reference pages. I didn't really expect any. Is there anything more you can tell me about the Bednars in NE (pages 153, 182 & 184)? Or about the Zvolanek's in TX (pages 59 & 95)? Many thanks for all the time you are spending. I certainly appreciate it as I am sure everyone does! Bednars in Nebraska: p. 153 refers to Father Antonin Bednar who is today already deceased (written in 1910). He was born in Chvalkovice na Hane near Olomouc, ordained as a priest on July 5, 1893, and came to America in 1900. He assumed the administration of the Czech Catholic Colony in South Omaha. He died in South Sharon, PA on Feb. 13, 1907. P. 182 The deceased Martin Fr. Bednar, born in Jindrichuv on Nov 12, 1847, was a strap-maker in Schuyler, NE and held the office of county treasurer. He is mentioned in a list of the oldest Czech citizens in Schuyler. p. 184 Father Antonin Bednar is mentioned again as having practiced in South Omaha and then having gone to Howells as a priest. Zvolaneks in TX: p. 59 Pastor Josef Jan Zvolanek was a priest of the Augsburg denomination, had been in practice in Liptal and Vsetin, Moravia, and arrived in Texas soon after Bergmann. He preached sermons in Czech in the German Evangelic church in Cat Spring. He then went to preach at San Felipe, Austin County, visiting Fayetteville, Fayette County. However, Zvolanek led an immoral and dissolute life and that was why he had to leave this colony and he died forgotten somewhere in Wisconsin. He also practiced as a minister in Muscoda, Grant County, WI. If any of these are yours, let me know and I can give you the whole exact text.
