One thing you will want to consider is that there are crowds of tourists everywhere in August. Also, if it is hot and it usually is in August, there isn't much air conditioning in a lot of the smaller hotels and in the cars, if you are renting one. Not sure about buses as I have never ridden buses there. Prague is so congested that time of year, as it is most of the summer, that it is hard to get around down town. Year before last, we went in May/June and it was unreal even then. There were so many guides with their flag poles and there 20 or more people following that we couldn't believe it. We watched from the Intercontinental Hotel while we were having breakfast in their coffee shop that looks out on the street to the Old Town ,and amused ourselves for a couple of hours watching. But, later when we tried to get over to see the Astronomical Clock it wasn't so funny as it was impossible to get near enough to take a picture. It was elbow to elbow with people. We found Brno pretty quiet after that so if you are going there it is fine. We stayed at the Holiday Inn in the Trade Center and really enjoyed it. They had a reasonable rate and the restaurant was exceptionally good. Large buffet breakfast in the morning. If you want to stay near the City Hall and across from the Castle, there is a hotel right there where we always parked when we went downtown. I believe it was called International Hotel. they had an ATM machine in their lobby and a good restaurant. If you are staying in small hotels... ask about air conditioning....also, you may be carrying your luggage up 3 flights of stairs as some don't have elevators The small hotels and B & B's are fun for local culture and food, but you have to be prepared for those little discomforts....some are worth it. We've spent some time in Telc and loved it. Also, Cesky Budohvice (sp). Hotel Zvon is great there. email me for more info on those places and I'll look up more about them.
