This is a forwarded message From: Peter Zimmer <[email protected]> To: "Czech" <[email protected]> Date: Monday, May 15, 2006, 9:49:37 AM Subject: {not a subscriber} Prague Ghetto photos before destruction On my last visit to Prague I bought a wonderful book called Židovské Mesto pražské na vedutách, fotografiích a pohlednicích Editor Edmund Orián. Text Katerina Becková, Praha : Belle Epoque 2004. 343 pages. It is book written in Czech with hundreds of pictures of the old Jewish ghetto taken before and during the vast redevelopment undertaken between 1893-1913 in which almost all the buildings except some of the synagoges and the Jewish Town Hall were destroyed. To the pictures short annotations are added giving the street location, house number as well as conscription number of the houses and buildings. This way I was able to locate the address of the houses where many of my ancestors used to live, as well as pictures of theses houses even though all I had were house (conscription) numbers on birth, marriage or death certificates (e.g. 53/5, 53 for the house number 5 for the quarter Josefov). So if there is anybody with such house numbers interested in a photo I would be willing to try and find it in this book and in case I find it send a scan as an attachment.
