As someone else has written, you can obtain information from the Archives of the City of New York. If you live near NYC you can go to the Chambers Street location and search yourself. Otherwise they will do a search for you but it can get costly. There is one charge for the certificate and a certain amount for each year they must search. With the death certificate, you can learn where he was buried and it might contain his parents names (if the person registering the death knew this information). It is very likely that he had social security number --- but not all deaths were registered with them either. I think it depended if there were survivors who would have received some benefits. Was he married in the US; if so a marriage record would exist. If you go to: www.stevemorse.org - scroll down to groom index or search. There are two Frank Walla's - one married in 1912 and the other in 1915 (I think). This record gives the marriage certificate # and the name of the bride. You can then obtain a marriage certificate - sometimes that contains information like parents names -- you just never know. Both of them were married in Manhattan but that is not unusual. Could have moved to Brooklyn later. The 1912 Walla was married to Mary Forst. The 1915 Walla was married to Petrolina Toth. Sound familiar? Forst is a Bohemian name; it is the name of my great great grandmother who was born and lived in Bohemia -- where I do not know yet. Hope this helps. Write back if you need more help.
