    3. I'm not an expert ... and this question comes up often. Jan translates to John. Vaclav doesn't really translate to anything in English. However, some Vaclav's were known by other American names. But that does not mean that they were really translations -- just names that people or families used. Keeping in mind this statement, some people say their Vaclav's were known as James. But remember -- Vaclav really has no translation.
