Once you get the names to come up -- starting with "A", you can click on Search. That brings up boxes -- fill in the surname at the top box and then click on search. You might be able to add first names too but I have not had luck with that. At the least, you'll get to the beginning of your surname and will have less to click through. Hope this works for you. I did a little test to see how this works as some of my surnames were picking up nothing. So after pressing the search tab, I typed in the surname "Broz" on the top line, which produced a "1-20" listing. When I saw at least two "Anna Broz", I went back to search and typed in "Broz" on the top line for surname, and then "Anna" in the second line for first name. That pulled up alot more Anna's that had "broz" letters in their surname. Was this suppose to be for any residents of Prague or just for police officers? I must have missed the initial description for the site. Carol
The introduction to the database explains all in translated English. If you get a list of names on screen, select "Introduction letter" from top of page (it is above "sort by....") to find it. I found my Grand Uncle that had lived at Radkovice nr Mecin in 1858. He apparently moved to Prague in 1865, 2 years before his brother (my great grandfather) immigrated to St. Louis. It listed his wife, & children birthplaces & date. There was a record for each time they moved. I had searched for "Bochnicek" and got no hits. I retried with "Boch" and got 21 hits including Bochnićzek, Bochnićekova, etc. and had been able to trace the family through to 1924, date my uncle died, etc. My search also names in () with the surname. These are "other names" used, for example spouse birth surname or prior marriage name. In my case, it had also listed the wife's village of where she was born & year. For me, this database solved a BIG family mystery! My direct cousins remembered Praque being mentioned often & thought perhaps this was where their grandparents were from, but my research could not support this theory. This confused some family members. So I made a few phone calls last night to share this information I found & they agreed it fit - Joseph was my great grandfather's brother! - Isn't this Great!!!!!!
