Hi, Ron. I had a grandfather that served during World War I and was captured and imprisoned by the Russians. Any way of finding records about him/that? Thanks, Joe >>> Ron and Betty Mlejnek <rvmlejnek@navix.net> 01/16/08 8:43 PM >>> Jiri Mlejnek mentioned the web site with the names of the Czech Legionaires which is described as a list of those who died while serving in the Czech Legion. http://www.pamatnik.valka.cz/novy/cz/informace.php I have never heard of the Czech Legion so Jiri sent me a site in English describing their accomplishments: http://web.mac.com/czechlegion/iWeb/TheCzechLegion/Introduction.html It is called the greatest story never told and it is incredible indeed. The politics are incredibly messy, but as I understand it, it all started with 100,000 Czechs who were taken as prisoners of war by the Russian Czar's Army. The story is documented by a very short film on YouTube and 3 photo albums with descriptions of events: http://web.mac.com/czechlegion/iWeb/TheCzechLegion/Photo1.html http://web.mac.com/czechlegion/iWeb/TheCzechLegion/Photo2.html http://web.mac.com/czechlegion/iWeb/TheCzechLegion/Photo3.html It gave me a completely different perspective on WWI and how the Czechoslovak State was created. ron mlejnek ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to CZECH-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
