We are trying to find where these town/area names are. I have been told that names have been changed over the years. The family came to USA in 1876. A lot has happened there since then. The names I have are: Polosovica, Volisna, Svata and Dobiova. I have no idea if the spellings are correct either. Is there any recourses that might be used to help determine general area that they might have been?

CSAGSI has the Berni Rula Index Vol. 1-2 at their library located at 5701 22nd. Pl., Cicero, IL. Also in their collection is the 1651 Soupis (land census) for a number of regions. The library is open on the second Saturday of the month from 10:00am - 2:00pm. Hi Rosie, sorry, I'm not sure if I can understand your question correct. Kraj Rakovnicko was an separately part from the Berni Rula, Berni Rula part No. 31. But this part was also not published as yet. When you mean this Kralovice south- westerly from Rakovnik, which you has mentioned, I'm sure it was in the Rakovnicko Kraj and not in the Berounsko Kraj. When you search informations about this Kralovice by Rakovnik, the Soul-list (Census after the religion, Soupis poddanych podle viry z roku 1651) from the Rakovnicko Kraj was already published. The Berni Rula has not an separately part from the Berounsko Kraj. Maybe this Kraj was included in the Kladsko Kraj, Berni Rula No. 34, but I'm not sure. The only what was published from the Berounsko Kraj was also this Soul-lists from 1651. When you mean for example this Kralovice northwesterly from Slany, this was maybe in the Slansko Kraj, Berni Rula part No. 35 (also not published), but I'm not sure. Elaine, I think the Polish lists could help you much more then me. I know the searching in Poland is very complicated. I live in Bialystok since 30 years and nevertheless had not much to do with the archives and other institutions of this kind. It will come later... I will try to learn understand the system of records in Poland but it lasts some time. The most people here are not interested in genealogy, even the historians do not know much about their ancestors. I suppose the most records are in the church parishes but a huge part of it has been destroyd. The situation can be other in Western, Southern and Eastern Poland (where I live.Many of the records of Bialystok are in Belarus.) Are there any mentions to Janota and Hetz in your records which could help to find their place of origine in Poland? Maybe the name Janota is more popular in Silesia (the southern part of Poland) but it's only a thought (I opened some pages with the name Janota/Janotta on the server Wirtualna Polska). Thank you again for your msg abt my ancestor, and yes I'm curious also, just nervous about projecting myself to unknowns. I appreciate your candidness and it gave me some insight on how to progress. This was all several months ago and I am finally going over my old emails that are awaiting some kind of reply. Today I proceeded to send her a msg of my Woborils. I think I have found only a few Woborils in all the many pages of microfilm I have scanned. Definitely not a common name in Chicago. Hi Jan, CGSI (www.cgsi.org) and the Family History Library in Salt Lake City have many of the regional books. CGSI does do look ups for a small fee. I have the Pilsen Berni Rule Books. Maybe someone else has your regional Berni Rule book. Which region is it? Does anyone know about following up on Berni Rula index entries? Do I need to hire a Czech researcher to find the full entry in the appropriate regional book? I have documentation of my dad's family (Pivec/Pivetz/Piwetz) back to 1744 in Southern Bohemia (Misek/Missek/Mnissek). The Berni Rula shows a Pivce in that same village. Is it likely this is the same family (Pivce/Pivec)? The Berni Rula also shows a Bartholomej Pivec in a village that is very close to Mnissek, and my 1744 documentation mentions a Bartholomej (I know, a 90-year gap, but it proves it is a family name). I would like to pursue these two leads to get more information on the family at the time. Anybody know how to access the regional Berni Rula books? Are they held in the regional archives?
