    3. Judie, for those of us who live outside the area, are there volunteers or researchers for fee who will help us with the materials at the library? I personally have no chance of getting to the library but my family was in Chicago in the 1860s. What does the Society offer to residents outside of the Chicago area? (Some I know, but some should be mentioned here.) Many thanks for your response. Elaine > Ron & Betty Mlejnek <rm62759@windstream.net> wrote: > > CSAGSI has not been much help in the past. 3. Dear Madam/Sir I am looking for information on my Grand Grandfather by the name Walentym Trojanowski who was the father of my grandfather Eugeniusz Trojanowski. My Grand Grandfather, Walenty Trojanowski was born in 1875 most likely in Lodz (town of Poland). He was married to Franciszka Wypych who lived also in Lodz. They had togehter 9 (nine) children, whose some of them names were: Antonina, Helena, Longin, Jan, Eugeniusz (my grandfather, born in 03-01-1906 in Lodz), Tomasz (the youngest, who was born in 1907 also in Lodz). My Grand Grandfather fought for freedom of Poland against the Russia and then, he was captured and sent to Siberia. He escape from the prisoner camp in Siberia and managed to get to the USA. Then, in 1912 he started to help financially his family in Lodz (Poland). He most likely worked as a worker in a factory manufacturing food cans in Pittsburgh, USA. My Grand Grandmother did not want to go to the USA and then she agreed to divorce him. My Grand Grandfather remarried and he had children with his second wife (no information about this marriage either). If anyone who has any information or had have any contact with my Grand Grandfather, Walentym Trojanowski, please let me know. This information would help me to establish my family roots and therefore it would be greatly appreciated. With the greatest Regards, Krzysztof Dalkowski (Szczecin, Poland) my e-mail: dalaga@wp.pl

However, I'm surprised and disappointed to hear you say CSAGSI has not been much help in the past. Would you mind telling me in what way the organization was not helpful and what they could do to be more helpful in the future? CSAGSI has a free library open once a month for nine months manned by volunteers who provide genealogical research guidance, and document translations when a translator is available. Please note, I stated research guidance........the organization does not do research for you. The library is a treasure trove of Czech, Slovak and Chicago history.........mostly donations from CSAGSI members. In addition to the library, there are five informative, free meetings held throughout the year along with an annual conference in March. There is a fee for the conference which pays for the buffet meal provided. This dedicated organization, all volunteers I might add, has indexed the Denni Hlasatel newspaper obituaries, Zlata Kniha (Svornost Anniversary Book), St. Procopius Death records and is in the process of translating the book "Czechs in Chicago" and indexing the interment records of Bohemian National Cemetery which will be available on disc when this monumental task has been completed. I'm sorry to have made this posting so long but, this organization is very dear to my heart and I couldn't let a negative comment pass without responding. Judie Mason Chicago

    2. Dear Jiri What a novel idea - contact the source (I hope you know I am poking fun at myself). Since English is my only language I always hesitate to write to others when I don't know if we will be able to communicate. After doing my family research for about 6 years now, I should know better and just give it a try. I did write to Blanka Vetrovcova and within a very short time today I had a response. So thank you so much for urging me on to do what I should have done to begin with. In case anyone else might see a familier name on Blanka's website, she stated these are names of couples who were married in Trest and surrounding villages between 1780 & 1827. Thank you again. Jiri Mlejnek http://rodokmen.psinec.com/matriky/oddani/trest_oddani_1780-1827.htm I am researching the surname Praschinger/Prashinger/Prassinger/Prasinger. My 3rd great grandfather Mathaeus Proschinger married in Csatalja, Hungary in 1811. On that church marriage entry it stated he was from Moravia. The priest in Csatalja spelled the last name always with an "o" rather than "a" and it seems the "a" wasn't used until the family had moved to Bereg, Hungary. While doing a google search a couple of days ago I came across the above link with my family surname listed. Since I have been searching for their origin in Moravia I am wondering if this could be a possible clue as Triesch/Trest was part of Moravia and now part of the Czech Republic.
