    1. [CZ] Bohemain restaurants
    2. klein
    3. I'm looking for restaurants that serve traditional meals from Bohemia/Czechoslavkia. My mother and I are heading to Chicago this summer so I can see where she grew up and I would like to treat her to a special meal from her childhood (if that's possible). Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Denise

    3. Below is Karel's message to the list (re Maggie's question). On a personal note, I have used Jaroslav Fiala and been happy with the results. Elaine This is a forwarded message From: Karel Kysilka (Berlin) <karel.kysilka@berlin.de> To: <CZECH-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, September 9, 2003, 6:34:29 PM Subject: {not a subscriber} RE: [CZ] Finding a researcher in the Czech Republic ===8<==============Original message text=============== Dear Listmembers, I am not involved in the genealogy business anymore, since of my other proffessional commitments. There are only 5 - 6 people I would recommend for doing a genealogy research in the Czech Republic. I would hire all of them to do a research even for me and I would fully trust them, as far as the money, as well the achieved results is concerned. Jiri Osanec Miroslav Koudelka Pavel Pilat of PandT Research. Jaroslav Fiala Martin Pytr David Kohout Of foreign researchers I would recommend of course Felix Gundacker and Duncan Gardiner. These all are guarantees of quality for the job done. As a matter of fact, all names were mentioned is previous postings. 1. [CZ] for Maggie
    2. Hi Maggie ! Karel has retired from active research. Retired being my word, not his. He sent a notice out to the list some months ago as to this effect. I believe he did mention that those he was doing research for, he would finish up. His proffession no longer allowing him the time to do Gen research. 3. I am forwarding a reply about the logistics of having a family reunion in the Czech Republic (Moravia). If anyone has any questions, please contact Frank Soural directly at <qlt@cyberus.ca>. Ron Mlejnek --------------------- Forwarded Reply ----------------- Hello Sandy. Ron suggested a while ago that I summarize my experiences in setting up a reunion in the Czech Republic.I have actually had two in the same village Bludov in north western Moravia. The first was in the year 2000 and we gave it the catchy name of "Bludov 2000". The key to that one was that it was orchestrated by someone living in Europe who made several trips to Bludov beforehand to organize the venues, like renting the Grand Hall in the Feudal Manor where several genealogical presentations would take place, the restaurant for an authentic Czech dinner and the excursions into the countryside. From what I recall that individual went first to the Bludov Town Hall and they were very helpful in telling him whom to contact for the venues, and the organizing of the excursions. It would not surprise me if they would roll out the red carpet for your event as well.. There must have been about 150 people at both events as the names Kotrly and Soural, intertwined since the 19th Century, are very common in the town. So everyone came to see what we from North America looked like. In the audience was an Ambassador and his wife, professional people and cousins and great aunts that we did not know we had. Then of course is the publicity of the event. I understand that many phone calls were made within the Bludov Community and worldwide to notify near and distant relations when and where the event will take place. In retrospect I must say that they were very successful as we could not have handled any more people. The Bludov press was there too and the event was described in next days paper. Organizing the trips from the US and Canada was in the hands of the various family heads.Mostly grandparents who in some cases funded the transatlantic fares. After all, what are Grandparent for ? I was responsible to assist anyone who had questions on continuity and scheduling. The conversation was mostly in the Czech language, and since I still have a smattering of it, I was asked to do my presentation in that language. Oh Boy, I still vividly recall that embarrassment. Even though the Ambassador came later and said "You've done good" So it must have been ok. There was measurable applause after the presentation. So they must have understood me. With other presenters, some of them professors who currently teach at the Prague university, there was some disagreements with the family trees presented, but that is part of the game as there were 150 people who may have different information. All in all, it was a wonderful experience, one that led to the second visit, last year. I know we have made many friends in Bludov with whom I exchange e-mails frequently. I would be pleased to answer any questions that you may have on your upcoming visit. Good luck and don't forget to bring you digital camera, you'll need it. I will describe my second trip in a short essay on the Czech list. Frank Frank Soural qlt@cyberus.ca

    1. [CZ] Any experience with reunions in Czech Republic?
    2. Sandy Miller
    3. The happy day has finally arrived -- I have made sufficient progress with my research so that we Hrudas are ready to hold our first family gathering in 2005. There is a lot of interest in doing it in the Moravia, near our ancestral village. Does anyone out there have experience with holding a reunion in the Czech Republic? I'd love to get some ideas from those of you who have done it. Sandy Miller

    1. [CZ] Large paper trees
    2. In 1995 when I went to Ireland for a family reunion my son, an Architect printed them on large paper that they use for building designs.  I then connected some of them.  The tree ended up over 6 feet by 5 feet.  I also added flags for the countries that they were born in.  I had over 700 people on the tree.  I also had another printed a smaller size of one family at Kinko's. I also color code each generation.  My family purple, my parents pink, grandparents green, great grandparents blue, gggrandparents yellow,  ggggrandparents peach,  gggggrandparents red, ggggggrandparents orange etc.  In my printed book I also have each generation colored coded.  I put color  card stock for each family.  You know instantly what generation each ones are. The FTM book should give you the info you need to get it done that way. There is a gentleman who does just that for you, he is in England I think, and right now I cannot find my bookmark for him, darn it. I made up a tree several years ago and a cousin's husband, who is in the Navy and was working in a print shop with a platt printer took it and rearranged it so it could be printed in a narrower and longer format and then printed it on one sheet of paper (banner) for us. Try a genealogy museum or library that also has a shop. You can also go to mnhs.org I got a tubrolled ancestral chart for each of my grandchildren from the shop at the Minnesota Historical Society store and then had a sister who was a nurse and writes really small fill it out for me. I then framed them and gave them to the grandchildren as a gift. Annie in Minnesota
