    3. Hi Looking at the dates on that film I think I have the reason it is not available till 2006. The last date is 1956 2006 is 50 years and copywrite laws are such that 50 years is the not available period for reproduction of anything in copywrite without payment of a fee. Which could get prohibitive. You most probably could look at the thing is Salt Lake City. Alternately check if there is a film that only goes to cc 1953 which will be out of copywrite. 2. JuDi
    3. As a volunteer, I received this update from STeve Morse. We need more volunteers to finish this project. Think about it! It is very rewarding. Judi Phase III of the SHip-Lists project is quickly nearing completion, way ahead of when I anticipated. You all just pulled a rabbit out of a hat. Rather than do a lot of reassigning to get it completed any sooner, I'll just let it finish up naturally. Those of you who have outstanding phase III rolls, please continue working on them but don't feel that you are under and pressure. However please let me know if you won't be able to complete them, in which case I'll have them reassigned. So here's where we now stand. We have detailed lists of ship arrivals including frame numbers for 1892 to 1897 (thanks to phase I) and for 1913 to 1924 (thanks to phases II and III). Next I'd like to focus on 1897 to 1907. There are 1067 rolls involved and they are important because they cover the peak years of immigration. As in phase III, we are fortunate in that one of the volunteers has been researching his own family by going through every manifest for an entire year and making ship lists as he has been going. He has been doing 1907 which covers some 250 rolls, of which he currently has completed about half and expects to have the other half completed by June. So that leaves 800 rolls remaining to do for phase IV. That's more than what we did in phase III, and I promise this won't be another two-week quickie project. I realistically expect it to go on for several months, and there will be no time pressure. The rules in phase IV will be similar to phase III. Once again we have the list of ships generated by INS/NARA and all that remains to do is add the frame and port values and to make any necessary corrections. The lists for these earlier years came from Marian Smith at INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) and I have found them to be more accurate than the lists for the later years that were generated by volunteers at NARA. So there should be considerably fewer errors to correct. Please let me know if you are interested in signing up for phase IV and I'll start handing out assignments. Of course if you have any outstanding phase III assignments, you should get those finished first. And thanks. -- Steve

    2. Carrie Taylor
    3. Dear Lynn, Check with your family history center on why they charge more. They are allowed to charge for the cost of notifying you that your film has arrived either by postage or a phone call. In some areas the phone charges are not local and cost the center money and of course postage gets expensive too. This can add up and since there is no charge for using the FHC and the LDS church is non profit the funds must come from an outside source-you. As far as why the films take so long to arrive-I can only guess that they are short handed or have a difficult time getting hold of you to tell you the films have arrived. The staff at the FHC is all volunteer-no paid positions- so they take care of business when they can. If a FHC has a lot of patrons or has limited room they may not have space to store films long term. Knowing that there is someone still using the film lets them know not to return it. Hope this answers a few questions. 3. Not that this matters, and it is "off-topic", but I find it interesting that most FHC's seem to be charging $3.50 to rent a film. My FHC charges $4.00, we wait approx. 3-4 weeks to receive the film for 3 weeks, renew for 3 weeks and then with another renewal it can go on a 6 month "indefinite" hold, if you reguest it. At the end of the 6 month hold, you have to tell them, in writing, you are still using the film, then they will put it on "indefinite" until SLC asks for it back - no charge. I realize each HFC has it's own policy and I don't mind contributing $4.00 for each film, though the standard seems to be $3.50 with faster shipment, - but California is NOT that far from Utah. Makes you wonder. Lynn > >> With an estimated mailing time of 2 weeks there and two weeks >> back that leaves 2 weeks to view the film > > > Hi List ! 3. hi Don, You should send pictures with the letter, using the attachment tool, it's the one on the taskbar ontop it looks like a paperclip. You may also want to check your Tools and Message icons, they are also on the taskbar. the may be set wrong for what you want to do. If it was me I would go through all the icons on the taskbar, checking to see if something looks wrong. Good luck. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don Ondracek" <dondra30@bellsouth.net> To: <CZECH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 05, 2004 7:59 PM Subject: RE: [CZ] Non-related 'Help' > I also cannot send pictures to my children locally, scanning into Outlook or > Express. 3. I feel certain settings are involved, Don. I do not use Outlook, I have only used Outlook Express, so someone familiar with Outlook 9 will have to help you. What AV program, firewall, trojan protection, etc., are you using on your computer? Have you talked to the techs at BellSouth who might well be able to help you, most servers support Outlook and should have the FAQs to walk you through problems. Elaine Every family tree has some sap in it. Hello Don On Monday, April 5, 2004, you wrote > I also cannot send pictures to my children locally, scanning into Outlook or > Express.
