Mike, thanks for clarifying that translation. It only said Psotnik as cause of death. Nothing else, but my researcher may not have written it all down. Millie
Mike....sorry, I called you Joe in my response to the translation because of your email name. That's great that you have been able to search the archives yourself. When you know the language it certainly helps. I've been to some of the archives, too, but I have to have what I want written out in Czech and then they help me. I had most of my research done in 1990 direct from the Archives. They no longer will do that. My researcher that gave me the informaiton about Trebon no longer answers and the email is returned so I fear he has passed away. He offered to go to Trebon to see if he could find out more about my ancestor, who we think was a shepard in 1650. Millie
Thanks, Joe, for your response. That is the age I will use. That was a ripe old age for that era. But, it would have been even more unusual if it was her husband. I'm glad to know that's what it says. Millie
Could you please tell us where the history books of these villages can be purchased? I am interested in one from Petrovice. Thank you Shirley Kralovetz
I think I missed something. Will the village booklets be available for purchase? I am interested in Dolni Sloupnice, (Peterka).Dnesice (Hanzlik). Dloha Louka (Dvorak) and Luzany (Cervenka) Lil
Found this in a letter sent to me from someone in the Old Country. Although I dont know what it says, the info on Cerny may help someone. This Cerny family lived in Broumy area.

Judy, Is there a list somewhere of villages that are going to do this? I am interested in Znosim, Radosovice, Worsowitz and Vlasim. A friend just emailed us to say: In village of your ancestors Cermna, Vermerovice, > Petrovice etc. is now preparating jubille of > 700 years of these villages. Well, I had to throw in the weather report too. ; ) I have the history book of Broumy and it tells all. It names all the citizens and military personnel, land they owned, etc. It was worth every penny. Just wanted to let everybody know maybe in the next few years, all the villages books will be ready and we can get new leads. As many of you already know, I will be going in September, so if there is a village book you would be interested in email me. Thanks, Jitka Vondrova ______________________________
To Mike in AZ: Are you familiar with these two villages which are close together, South of Prague? My Ggrandmother was born and raised in Chrastice and my GGrandfather was born and raised in Bukovany. Maybe you can tell me what church would have the birth, marriage records? Lillian in OH
>However, I don't understand as Krivoklat is a castle, and I don't believe it >is near Trebon. And, Cesky Krumlov is very much south towards the border of >Austria so I can't figure this out. Hi Millie ! Krivoklat is a castle, but I think a village too, as other villages/castles share names. It is SE of Praha. Trebon is E of Ceske Budejovice and NE of Ceske Krumlov. In Trebon, there is an archive, Statni Oblastni Archiv, for the Southern Bohemia area. They normally have only the Birth, Death and Marraige records, altho there could be more, that are available to the Genealogy researcher. Havent been to that one. I know that Krivoklat records are in the Praha, Statni Ob' Archiv. Ive searched them. There are alot of SVARC's in that area. But im not sure still what your researcher is telling you, sorry. Maybe others know? Mike in AZ SWARTZ~SVARC / CERNY / HAJEK / HOSEK / HRABAC / KREISSINGER / CERMAK
>veku okolo 92 let. Pohrbena jest pri Chramu Pans(kem) Seslov(skem), >This is about Dorota Herink who has died April 1, 1725. >Does the above mean she was 92 years old? Hi Millie, well sort of it says her age was "about" ( okolo ) 92 years. Mike in AZ
Bill writes: >bartolome cerny was from vodnany # 31,near prague >eleonora pachler his wife was from tesinov. >any connection? Hi Bill ! No connection that I know....... family lore says Anna CERNY was born in Praha, but Ive not yet researched that branch. And researching ANY birth in Praha, without the Church name is...well, very lenghthy. I dont have handy Anna's family info, altho, her siblings, IF they came to Coal City, IL, USA might be listed in her OBIT, or other CERNY obits, at the Coal Ciity Libarary. They have a web site, try google...... BUT, I dont know their policy on OL requests. You might try the Grundy County IL List. WOW, wait I got motivated and got off my chair and checked my Bohemian National Cemetary book ( for BRAIDWOOD, WILL CO, IL.) Anna had at least a sister..... My Anna, nee Cerny, Swartz, was survived at the time of her death, 2.15.1938, by a Sister, Catherine MUSICK ..... sooooo, checking for , well its lised as MUZIK, Katherine, died at 78 in October 1938 in the home of her Daughter in Chicago, IL ( Braidwood Index Obit ). Above Katherine is James MUZIK, born 4.25.1852 in Mirochovech, Bohemia. Married to Katherine. Died Sept 6, 1929 in Braidwood, ( Will Co ), IL, buried 9-29.The Undertaker was M. S. Patterson and the Physician was W. Frick of Braidwood. ..... Maybe these CERNY's were from James' village too? of Mirichovech ..... IF thats the correct spelling. My Anna ( CERNY) Swartz apparantly was not related to 6 other CERNY's as listed in the Cemtary book. RE : Inlaws, I dont know. Another Project ! Regards, Mike in AZ
Ron writes: > I have come to realize that over > the centuries, the Roman Catholic Church obtained great quantities of land ..... Hi Ron and List ! Im not sure about " Estates" as Ron describes them, he has a useful question for sure, but i can tell you that currently, today, the Catholic Church is still trying to get alot of their lands they owned returned to them from the Czech govt, as part of their Restitution. And there were thousands of hectacres ( metric) ! I dont know the latest info, but I know the Govt has generally been not too excited to talk about it, and in some cases the land has changed hands a few times, making it that more difficult. I think its still something the Church wants, but the Czech Govt ignores them pretty much. Maybe a Lister in Czechia, can enlighten us some more?? But, if someone is looking for a Birth, Death or Marriage records, I think you would still find it in the Church records, for that village, in their respective Statni Oblastni Archiv, that holds that villages' records. No need maybe to go to any specific " Estate " records, if they can be had. BUT, it could be interesting. Regards, mike in AZ SWARTZ~SVARC / CERNY / HAJEK / HOSEK / HRABAC / KREISSINGER / CERMAK
Elaine Reposted and old post: >My HANDY CZECH ENGLISH GENEALOGICAL DICTIONARY states that psotnik is >infantile convulsions. Yes... but I would like to expand and further state, as it is in the dictionary... " Psotnik was the most frequently given cause of childrens death, but these convulsions were symtons of other diseases" Also, the "mark ( ' ) over the " i " , is the diacritical mark, it shows the pronunciation of the letter. If I may and some Czechs in Czechia, please correct me..... here is my phonetic pronunciation........ P SOTE-NYEEK ( silent E ) , as in " SO " . I felt felt this detail may be important to some. Thx Elaine Regards, Mike in AZ

Hi Jitka, Since I asked for one set of my great grandparents I thought I would add my other great grandparents who were Branda from Holice. Again, thanks so much for you help in looking for these books which are being prepared. What a wonderful idea and what a great deal of work. Thanks again. Best Regards, Mel Besthorn
Jitka, My great grandparents Adamek were from Kluky just south east of Pisek. I really appreciate your providing the list with such wonderful service. Thank you so much. Best Regards, Mel Besthorn
Jim, Thank you so much for the information you provided. Now what I need to know is Sladka and Sladky the same or is it because Anastazie is a woman and therefore is Sladka? Also, is Frnoch the same as Fernoch. It seems I have it both ways. Can anyone check the Denni Hlasital to see if there were any obits for Anastazie Sladka or Sladky who died in May 1922 and for Vaclav Sladka or Sladky who died February, 1916? Also for any Fernoch members, Josef, James, Terezie. It may also be spelled Frnoch. Thank you list. Janice in AZ
