    3. Hi Lars, Would you please tell me which volume and page you found Mikita Janos - I just rechecked all nine volumes and I can not find it. Thank you. I really try to be as careful as I can because I know how frustrating it is trying to find any information on our lines. Since I don't speak the language, I'm never sure what names to pick up that look similar but spelled differently. thank you, Maggie Smith ----- Original Message ----- From: <HANUSH@gmx.de> To: <CZECH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 26, 2004 10:53 AM Subject: Re: [CZ] Re: Baca Lookups, please--Baltimore > Hi Joe, > > I saw an Mikita Janos, but NY, Ship Werra, > 10. 3. Listers, please note: All laud and praise and sincere thanks to Maggie Smith in CA who did a Baca lookup for me! It was a complete and yeoman service! And while I'm sure many join me in her recognition, many, many more will join ranks in thanking all those Baca-looker-upers out there that are also faithfully serving the List. I continue amazed at geographic vista that our listers cover, the breadth and depth of our combined resources, knowledge, and interests, and a genuine desire of so many to share and be of service. I've not yet run into a List like this one. And I'm at a loss to think of a place to go looking for some of the things I have found here. Nazdar, a dekuji. Joe Pecenka in IL

    1. Baca Look-up and family reunions
    2. Could someone do a look-up for Magdalena BESEDA and minor son Thomas. Most likely port of entry New Orleans, maybe Galveston: they settled in Texas. This request came to me yesterday at our our 38th bi-annual family Piwetz (Pivec) reunion, from the wife of a relative who is interested in following her side of the family. The reunion is for descendants of the family that came to Texas in 1860. I had copies of recent research from the CR, and cadastral maps that showed where the bridegrooms and brides lived, and where their children were born. Other people brought old pictures to share and help identify people. One guy exclaimed in wonder, "That's my mother (as a child of age 2)". It means that we will have some more old photos to add to our family history. It has already reunited us with a branch of the family, one of the original siblings, who disappeared (legend has it, after a quarrel with his brother). Eight of them traveled from Alabama to join the reunion. Lots of energy and family spirit (and a good time was had by all :-) Jan Esenwein M. D. I will take these emails with me so I can keep up with all the village books. I also plan to leave behind the TexasCzech Yahoo Group list web address. Therefore we may have new friends on this list. Due to the large number of books requested there may have to be money paid up front. I will let you know for sure later on. Either that or I will have to cut down on the Astros games. *grin* Since it is no secret that I love helping others, I have had another brainstorm idea...... Email me your family surnames, birthdates and villages you are searching for.

    3. For those traveling in the 1900s, do not forget the Bremen lists which are being regularly updated. For instance my surname shows up, but I don't think there is a connection since my family appears to have traveled much earlier than the records currently being uploaded on the Bremen website. Josef Slepicka from Roznov (Tschechoslowakei) travelled at 16 Dezember 1922 on the ship 'Gotha' from Bremen to Buenos Aires Be sure to check out your surname if your family was traveling in the years mentioned. http://db.genealogy.net/maus/gate/shiplists.cgi?lang=en Elaine
