    2. Please help me with a problem I am having tracing my husband's mother's family. I will tell you what I know. Her name was Josepha Dvorakova. Her fathers name was Frank Dvorak, Mother unknown Somr. She arrived here on the 19th of May,1921 on the New Rochelle from Bremen. She was 20 years old. On the Ellis Island records I printed off she was sponsored by an uncle named Anton Somr of Verdigree,NE., really a cousin, whom she was to marry. Instead she came to Omaha, found a job and eventually married my father-in-law Vaclav (James) Vacek who had emigrated earlier from Milcin, Bohemia. The records show she was from Buciny, Podmokly. When I looked it up on a site about Eastern European Political Geography it said it is or the area any way is called Decin. or Tetschen in German. It is in the Czech Republic, in Bohemia on the Elbe River. It includes since 1950 the city of Podmokly or in German Bodenbach. She had other relatives I found in Verdigree, her mothers sister, Anna Somr Tomasek and husband Joe and several children. They sponsored Anton Somr. All leads in Verdigree went nowhere. Now I have hit a brick wall. I know in the 70's she still had family alive in the area of Buciny Podmokly.Where do I go from here? She died in the 1950s and we know little about her or her family. Who do I contact short of going there? Someone who has done this before please help me. Is there a book on this town? Thank you for your time. Tymna Vacek My E-mail is TymnaV@aol.com

Judy Hi List! You could also buy them, where you can find them. I didnt have any of my Fathers medals, but I had his Discharge papers which listed the ones he earned. I went to my local Military Collectibles store and bought new ones or like-new. I think the 3 of them, that the store had, cost me $30. This was more than 10 years ago though. Unfortunately, this store is now closed so I cant refer it to any of the Listers here. I would now look to e bay or a Google search. Regards, Mike in AZ

    3. Here I am. I havent answered everybody's emails yet, as that would be nearly impossible this soon since I have received about 112 emails . Sunday, I had one email to Ron and 3 others typed up and the lights went out in the storm. The most important thing for me to do was to print all of them just incase something was to happen to my computer. Then I began answering them in the order they were received. I have sent alot of replies already. I also belong to other lists as well. Please be patient, I am trying. I answered 2 more emails today and hopefully you will get your email soon. Most importantly all of your emails are in my carry - on. Thanks to so many of you who sent your request. Some of you also sent family history and house numbers with your request. Although it may not be possible, I hope to visit everybody's village, purchase their books or get the amount and address and take pictures of those house (numbers) you included. Thanks again, Judy / Jitka P.S. I do not know which books are available at this time. I have used the czech search engine www.seznam.cz and typed in my village and then literatur and found several books. You can also contact the starosta (mayor) at your village. This addy can be found on the village's website. Woody Minar was researching the Urlich/Skala family from Celakovice house #4. Woody email me off list and let me know if you have contact with the people in house #4 or if you would like to have a picture of that house as I will be there during the Conference. Please email me off list.

    1. Re: [CZ] Re: Baca Lookups, please--Baltimore
    2. Hi Maggie, Sorry I will it somethink detailed explain. I have no Baca Books, The only what I have is the Passenger and Immigration List Index CD 354. But in this example was only 2 Mikita listed there, 1899 in Manitoba. So this CD is not always helpful. I, for example search for a long time an ancestor from me, Albrecht Vladimir Hanus(sch,sh), who emigrated 1900-1902, maybe from Chotebor Bohemia. He wrote 1909, he was the 8. year in America. I did also not know his birthdate/place, because his father was by the railroad and "served" in a lot of towns and all his children are born scatters. Despite much help from friendly people at the Czech, Bohemia, Cook, AZ- lists and other, we could't find him in any Passengerlists, Cenus, City directories etc. etc. I'm sure his name must be is very misspelled, that we could't find him. After long search, we found he was born 6. Feb 1887. So I knew now he was 13-15 years old as he emigrated. So I had the hope, with this date I can find him. But now luck. I have not Ancestry or other subscription and it is not easy to search from here. I have the fortune, that I can drive to the Czech archive, when it is possible, but of the other side, I can't go to the library or can loan all passenger films etc. when I search record from Amerika. So I have searched in the Internet an library in the US, where I have maybe at least free access to AncestryPlus and Heritage- Quest. I found after long search an library, where I need not an library card and could look from home, through subscription from this library by this two. As I saw by my search, by the way this request from Joe and Jan, I have looked also right away for this names, if I can maybe help. This source for example was: New York City Immigrants (Austria, Galizia, Poland) 1890. NY arrivals Jan-Dec 1890. I will hope, I have responds your query. The spellings from the names will be always an problem. When I can something do for you please write me, but you know my source and sorry I have not more. Sorry Maggie, that I have by this occasion refreshed my problem and request to the list. 2. Hello, I sent a letter to check on my great uncles and Uncles (which i was not qualified to recieve)military records, and there was a place to check for medals earned for that person. I was able to get my G-Uncles Purple Heart, Honorable Service, World War 11 Victory, and European AfricanismEastern, Campaign Medals. The Purple Heart was also Engraved with his name on the back. It was very awe inspiring to hold these medals in my hand knowing that he died and is buried in Italy. It will be the only thing of my Great Uncles that I will probably have. I cant believe that I got them!! I went to http://vetrecs.archives.gov filled out the papers and they sent me a letter back telling me what medals he received and checked to see if I was qualified to receive them and i got them 2 weeks later. (they said that it would take 6 months but it only took 2 weeks from the date of the letter until i got the medals). I just wanted to pass this on in case anyone else wanted to receive their ancestors medals.
