    3. My great-great-grandmother Anna Marek married November 11, 1861 to Frank Steiner of Dolni Tresnovec, house # 84. His father was Mathias, mother Anna Maria Frodl. Does this fit in with any information you have ? Most of my grandmother's family that came to America settled in the Union Hill area of New Jersey. Other surnames from the same area related to me are STEINER and BUDIG. I do not know (nor do any family members I've talked to) how Anna fits into the HEGER or BUDIG family. 3. I am currently in the process of trying to figure out who in my family lived in a particular house in Cerniny. It is not an easy process, apparently. You must order the books I think , I have a friend over there who is working on this project as we speak Here is what my friend said recently: I visited the State archive and looked records. I looked at two books full of interesting things but there was nothing concern to your relatives. There were everything about farms ( landlords ) and their economic situation. I ordered another two books of records and when I return from my holiday I'll go to the archive and glean through and will inform you. jUDI

    3. ¡Hola José! Since you know the approximate date and place of your great grandfather's birth, you could try searching the parish records for the entry of his baptism. I've found the records from the late 1800's to be very detailed, often giving the name of hte child, parents, and grandparents along with their places of residence. The down side is that the parish records are only available at the State Regional Archives in the Czech Republic. You either have to go there yourself or hire a local researcher to view the records. Once you know the book and page of the record you want, you can request a copy from the archive. There are four towns called Pisek in the Czech Republic, one in the east near the border of Poland and Slovakia, another west of Hradec Kralove, one south of Prague near the Austrian border, and one west of Prague near Plzen. The one south of Prague is by far the largest. The others appear to be quite small. Here is a url for a site that lists the regional and district archives: http://www.europanet.org/archives/czech.html and another describing the records in the regional archives: http://czechcensus.tripod.com/regarchives.htm Records for the large Pisek are at the archive for South Bohemia in Trebon. For the first two small towns called Pisek, the records are in the regional archive for East Bohemia in Zamrsk. For the last small Pisek, the records are in the regional archive for West Bohemia in Plzen. Hablo un poco de espanol, porque vivía en el Ecuador hace unos anos. Entonces, estabamos vecinos. Pero hablo mejor ingles y vivo en los Estados Unidos. ¡Buenos suerte! Carol

    3. Neither can I --- I guess I really am addicted to searching and reading records -- especially for those elusive ones. A while back when I first learned of the missing manifest site, I did manage to find some records for a friend. We actually knew the date they arrived and the name of the ship -- and the funny thing was that the name was quite readable -- just for some reason the link was "broken". Will be in touch again. 2. Martin Pytr
    3. Dear Jose, The list of names what was sent to you by another contributors are not IMHO names of Czechoamericans but Americans with Yugoslav (Serbian, Croatian etc.) ancestors. Because names like Budimir, Grujica etc. are not usuall in the Czech republic but in the ex-Yugoslavia and the letter C in SAJIC is written there with diacritical mark. If your ancestors came from Pisek surroundnings, the correct form of your name could be ZAJIC (means "hare" in Czech) letter C without any diacritical marks. Letter Z could be probably changed by German clerk for S (Germans pronountiation of S is the same like Czech pronotiation of Z). Unfortunately for you, the lastname ZAJIC is very frequent in the Czech Republic. All the best, Martin Pytr, CZ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Flores José" <jflores@electroperu.com.pe> To: <CZECH-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, June 23, 2004 12:42 AM Subject: How can i find information about my great grandfather? > Hello, > > > > I don't write english very well, because I speak spanish, I'm from Perú. > > The only I know is that my great-grandfather came from Czechoslovakia. 2. Flores José
    3. Sue, I appreciate your help. Sincerely I don't know much about SAJIC surname, My great grandfather surname is REMAR. my great grandfather's name is JOSE (or JOSEPH) REMAR SAJIC my grand father's name is DIONISIO REMAR PARAGUAY. My aunt told me that my great grandfather could come to Peru from Pisek, Czhechoslovakia at 1900 +- I would like to know about SAJIC but if they come from Czech. I can't make calls to those persons because I don't speak clearly english and the calling cost to USA from Peru is expensive. My native language is spanish. I think it could help if somebody can give me email addresses or webpages of people that give that service of finding ancestors at Czechoslovakia. Thank you Sue. Best regards. 3. To Sue Zeagen -- From time to time I am checking the Ellis Island site waiting for that microfilm to be fixed and uploaded. Just wanted you to know I haven't given up on helping you find your ancestors who arrived on April 16, 1902. This is one of those challenges that just requires patience - I sure wish that film was fixed already. Take care. Susan W.
