I am seeking any information about any SCHUBERT families that might have lived in the vicinity of Nasedlovice, Moravia circa 1800. Associated family names are SCHTIERBA, STERBA, CZERMAK, and CERMAK. Associated locations include Nasedlovice, Veterov, and Vlkos, Moravia.
Donald - I'll be happy to check out the name when I go to the library again. I do have several sheets xeroxed at home -- I am reorganizing (as usual) and have to locate the few pages. Have you tried looking on-line at the Mormons? The site is: www.familysearch.org Click on Search at the top of the page and then type in the surname and see what comes up. You just never know.....do you know what port they came through and where they settled? I will get back to you as soon as I have any information. Susan W.
It appears to be far more common than I realized: Google Results about 8,740 for HLOUSEK. (0.54 seconds) Tell us what you have done to find your ancestors. How far back are you? I still don't have a passenger list reference, I do have a town, that was sheer accident, a cousin figured out we were related, I never dreamed that my family left Chicago for Nebraska, I thought my grandparents who went to Minnesota were the flighty ones and the others remained in Chicago. That turned out to be incorrect. So ideas about what our families do must be abandoned and we must show some creativity. What have you done so far, what have you discovered on your family? Elaine What was the best thing before sliced bread? Hello donaldhlousek On Saturday, July 3, 2004, you wrote > Susan I am Desperately trying to find something on the name HLOUSEK can you > help me ? Judi - Are you searching for the surname Jindela? One source for Czech names is the Leo Baca books - about seven or eight volumes. The Mormons have them and you can order/rent the books. Probably have to read it at the research center. Let me know the names you are searching -- my library does have one volume and I'll be happy to read it for you and copy any names that may apply to your family. The Baca books list whatever information is in the original passenger record. Once you know the dates, it may be easier to search the NARA records or you can also rent the films at the Mormons too. Just let me know. Susan W.

Steve, the LDS are often called Mormons. Judy: I think I got my list for New Orleans arrivals from the Mogans, a.k.a., the Latter Day Saints; they pulled it up on a web site. But if you enter into Google "Finding Passenger Lists 1820-1940s," the very first site will take you National Archive rolls by city. Going to www.nara.gov will put you in the Archives, where your troubles have only begun; it's huge and complex, but searchable. Let me know if this works for you; if not we'll try something else. Steve
How does one go about finding ship's manifests for immigrants prior to Ellis Island? judi
One way is to submit the proper form to the National Archives (NARA) and they will see if a record exists. All you need is the anbme and approximate date. As I recall some records were lost in a fire. See the 2nd link on the left hand side at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~elainetmaddox/index.htm > > From: "judi" <marshaja@hotmail.com> > Date: 2004/07/01 Thu PM 01:45:53 CDT > To: CZECH-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [CZ] Re: surname Jindela > > How does one go about finding ship's manifests for immigrants prior to Ellis > Island? > judi > > > ==== CZECH Mailing List ==== > Please do not repost the whole digest when replying to mail. > >

The city of Praha's phone book is listing JENDELE. Of course that does not mean that your ancestor was from Praha. I only try to find if the name does show up in the Czech Republic. http://phone.quick.cz

Regarding Jindela- I do not know what town.or village they originated from - only Bohemia. They came to America between l867-1869 so therefore they would not be listed in Ellis Island as that only opened in 1892. I did find the name spelled Jendele also. Also the Jindela's I found on Social Security records are my immediate family members- aunts, uncles, cousins etc. Thank you again.

Deb writes : I am trying to find out the correct spelling of our name....... Hi Deb ! Altho, I cant say that I have ever seen your surname, I think its spelled correctly. Its the other name, with the " ova " is as others have said the feminine form of your name. Perhaps an ancestor who emmigrated was a woman, and she would have used " Strezenkova " Her Husband,or father would have been a " Strezenec " .
