I would like to know what it costs for a person in the Czech Republic to subscribe to the Internet and is it different for email use versus surfing the Web. Are there many services from which to choose or is it limited? Are there charges per usage time period and are they different for various users (i.e., students, professionals, general public, etc.). Judith, Pilsener Kreis is the same thing as Kreis Plzen. In both cases it means the district of Plzen (Pilsen in English), which is a pretty big place, even for 1840. This is where my ancestors lived. Anettka

Here is a link in reference to the books written by Johann Sommer which describe geography, economy, agriculture, etc. by district(kreis)for the 1830-1840 period. You will see a map here. Clicking on the map will enlarge it. http://www.genealogienetz.de/reg/SUD/sommer.html If you have an interest you can order these books through interlibrary loan, as there are several libraries that own them. You want #6 for Pilsener Kreis (district) written in 1838. However, they are in old German script which is tough to read, let alone translate. Pilsener and Pilzen are the same area, different spellings. The city of Plzen is in it. If you wanted to use a professional researcher in the CR to look up records for your relatives, you really need to know the village where they were born-lived-died. Ron - do you know of anywhere in New York which will help find Enumeration districts in New York? That would be a tremendous help. The Manhattan Public Library on Fifth Avenue has a genealogy room where they have enlarged maps of Manhattan (you can use them to figure out Enumeration Districts". The maps show the E.D.'s for various census's. At least you can get a very good idea -- not as good as Chicago which will find the E.D. by address. Every time I get within a block or even a few numbers of this address, Eastern Parkway disappears. So far I have gone through wards 23 through 31, page by page.
