Judy -- looks like Joe has already come to your rescue. Looks like I got the gist of some of it. Will you be going to Kutna Hora? Will the flooding stop your travels? Susan -- Feel free to answer in a general list e-mail rather than privately. Judy - I used the on-line site and this is my "best" effort. He says: Hello -- Many apologies that I could not come to Praha but the water is unstable and continuing to come. I think he says it is receding but not enough. I think he says he is sending you at least a picture of Kutna Hora (not quite sure of that - as if I'm sure of any of it (smile) I think he is saying something about someone being born. Narodil translates as "he was born" jsem translates as "I am" se tam - might translate as "there". So, perhaps he is saying he is where this person was born. Maybe you will get a more expert opinion but I hope this helps in the meantime. Take care and enjoy your trip -- such a trip that you may not be able to meet your cousin in person. I am sure he is as disappointed as you. Have you been effected by the flooding -- I hope not. I am here in Prague and will not be able to meet my cousin as planned due to the floods. I have used them several times with success. My requests have always been for the 1857 and 1869 census and have been very helpful in locating the names of sibling of ancestors and parents names that were living in the households at that time, especially helpful with the names of a few that had died in Europe before the rest of the family came to America. I too had a couple of ancestors that the census was previously destroyed as others have mentioned, but there was no charge for those requests since they did not perform a search of those records. I am very satisfied with the information they provided.
Hi Kathy, I tried them, but there are several years missing, and so it just depends if you're lucky and need info from one that still exist. I wanted info from 1890 and 1900 but was told by them they could not help me. You just have to e-mail them and ask about the years, and find out. It sounds like a great site to use. The only thing is I sent them all my four great grandparents surnames and locations, but they couldn't find anything on any of them. However, I did find out later that the area some were in, the census got destroyed at one point. Isn't that the "pits"?!! Fortunately, though, hiring a private researcher has helped. Still looking for folks whose ancestors came to USA onboard the SS Frisia in 1881 I'll try to transcribe some names if anyone thinks they would ring a bell. It's only from one page of the ship manifest, but i think it would be worth a try

Yes, I have a brother of my Vaclav Komrska that came over in 1881 or 1882 that I'm still looking for. The other one is still unclear as it might be as late as 1885 that he emigrated, though the "bulk" of family members came over in 1884 and I have that ship as well as for Vaclav in 1880. There were some other extended family members that came over in 1881 and 1882 as well. I've been wondering if they came over together. Hello Judi -- Just dropping by to wish you well with your meeting with your "new cousin" -- I'm assuming you are checking e-mail while you are in Prague -- gee - I sure wish I were with you! Could you ask him if he knows of any Hala's or Holecek's from Kutna Hora or Jedlicka's from Cirkvice from Kutna Hora -- or Kraupner's? Here's hoping! Take care. I am not an authority on the subject but the route described by Richard Martin sounds reasonable, except that Hamburg was also a port of emigration so if they traveled all the way to Hamburg it dorsn't seem, to me, that they would have gone from there to Bremen.
