Possible. I do think that there should be a manifest being that he was naturalized but than again those naturalization petitions before 1906 do not contain any information especially no name of a town. You could try to request his forms. Did you check into the church he got married in? Did he live long enough for social security numbers? A map of Austria of old: http://users.erols.com/mwhite28/austhung.htm http://linktoyourroots.hamburg.de an Emil GREGOR shows up in that site. We need to locate a precise Garten in order for you to proceed with the research. Does he/family show up in 1910, 1920 or 1930 census? Just grabbing for places to look. What was his wife's maiden name? Maybe you can follow that line. Zlatica

My problem is that there is no records of Emil F. Gregor coming into America as far as I know. He came to America when he was 17 years old. Came into Baltimore, Maryland (Chesapeak Bay) on a cattle boat which he stowed away out of Hamburg, Germany. The only thing I know was that he became an American citizen Oct. 7,1895 In Baltimore. We were never told his parents names or his siblings. He told our father that he was born in Garten, Austria and that is all. So therefore you can see I do not know even where to start. I sure thank you for your kindness, it is greatly apprecicated. Jerry Ann

I, too, have ancestors who lived in Volesna, kraj Pisek. The surnames were Kostohryz, Krejci and Kus. 3. One of the best on-line resources is Felix Gundacher's Gazeteer. The link is under "On-Line Research Tools": http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Eelainetmaddox/czgenealogy.htm When at Mr. Gundacher's site, click on "gazetteer and picture cards". When the page loads, look for the link called "Listing". Read the instructions; you must put in at least three letters. If you get a "hit", you will get all the information you need on Parish listings and how far back the records span. Surnames: DVORAK, NOVAK, STERNHAGEN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/lRC.2ACE/248.694 Message Board Post: Hi Nancy, My husband's great great grandmother was Catherine DVORAK, born 18 April 1834 in Tesinov, Ceske Budejovice region of the Czech Republic. She was married to a Mr. NOVAK (possibly Martin Novak) sometime before 1858. It is believed he was killed in the Civil War. They had a son, Frank, born on 5 August 1858 at Fort Atkinson, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Sometime before 1863 Catherine marries Frederick "Fritz" STERNHAGEN. Their first child, Catherine STERNHAGEN, is born in August 1863 in Winnesheik County, Iowa. I have a copy of the baptism record for their son, Frederick (Bedrich, or Fritz) STERNHAGEN. His sponsors were Mathias DVORAK & Anna, his wife. I am assuming Mathias DVORAK is a relative - maybe a brother. Maybe this is information you already have. I can not take credit for most of the information -- other people have done a lot of research on this family. Let me know if this is the same person as your Catherine Dvorak. Thanks. Kathy Vacek

    1. Re: CZECH Census from 1829
    2. RE following question from C&C Hello list. Is there any census forms for Babice, Czech for the years around 1829, to find family members??? Thank you to all.... C&C Census available in Czech Republic start 1857,go to abt 1910 or 1921.. HOWEVER, not all census available for all areas. IF you are lucky, you might have two available for your area of interest. They were not used by the national government as much as they were by the local, including military, establishment, so were kept locally. The local gov't determined their value. In one of my areas of interest, census of 1869 and 1880 are available. In another area, census of 1900 and 1910 is available.... Nothing I know of goes back that far in time, except church related records. Anettka
