I would be interested in seeing the obit for Joseph Dvorak, if he was the husband of Marie Wesley. I have his birth date as 9/21/1843 and death on April 12, 1919. Ken Chromy Ohiowa, NE

The papers after 1906 do provide much more information than before 1906. Did you look at the manifest? Their last residence was Steinaw(u) but their place of birth was Stanawa and Lazy. About 42 villages and towns named or having a word Lazy in the name in Poland. http://mapa.szukacz.pl 3 Stanowos in Poland too. We can also find towns named Lazy in Czech Republic. http://mapy.atlas.cz but no Stanowo or Stanovo. No W in Czech alphabet and no V in Polish. The historical region Galicia was under Austria's rule. Now this region is divided up between Poland and Ukraine. Your Lois VOGALLA shows up in SSDI. http://ssdi.rootsweb.com have you considered requesting his SS-5Form?

My grandfather is Alois. I do not know what happened to his father after 1918. I do know that his parents were divorce after 1912 that is the year his sister was born here in America. My grandfather told us two stories about the reason they changed their last name one was because the name was made fun of. The other was that they were hiding from his father after the divorce. I think it was both. I wonder if the Ellis Island manifest said that they were Polish because that was the language that they spoke. in the 1920 census it states that my grandfather and his mother were naturalized in 1909 so I will try and find that record. Was there a Steinen in Austria? Thank you Linnea Hyder
