Sure. If they came in during the 1880's or thereabouts, they probably came into New York at the Castle Garden immigrations site. Try your surnames of interest in the Castle Garden search engine on the Castle Garden site at: http://www.castlegarden.org/ We found several of my wife's Moravian ancestors on that site: the names of those who came, what ship they came on, and when they arrived (it was Kaiser family from Bzenec.) It's a marvelous website. Good luck. Untill 1918 Bohemia and Moravia were part of Austrian-Hungarian Empire, where German was the official language - therefore documents of your ancestor were written in German. You are lucky to know for sure that your Telnice is in Moravia. There is also another village of the same name in Bohemia, quite far away. Your Telnice is located very near to the city Brno (which is the centrum of Moravia). About 1250 inhabitants, 450 houses. First written notice from the year 1244 but acc. to historical research was the place inhabited since the Stone Age. During the famous Battle of Austerlitz many hard fights took place in Telnice.

I would like to know if I am correct in saying that in CZ,say in the early 1900's, that a single female would wear a wreath on her head made of flowers and the back had all colored ribbons? The young male wore a hat, that had feathers for each female he went out with, and when he got engaged the feathers were clipped. This came from a book of costumes so I want to be correct as I am hosting a CZ table for a luncheon, and there will be a CZ outfit on a doll to be auctioned off. Comments Please....Thank You Libby/Florida

No .... you wouldn't have half the title in Czech and half in English. Wenceslas Square (in Engish) = Vaclav Namesti (in Czech). Jim Sladek john wrote: > Tina, there is a Wenceslas square in Prague, wouldn't that properly be > called Vaclav square?
