'Trust you'all had a meaningful Christmas and now are looking forward to a new, prosperous year? I've been out of town for a week, but I wanted to write and let everyone know of a really neat new web-site that every subscriber to SULTANA-L and -D should go check out: http://www.flash.net/~gshields/index.html It chronicles the Civil War experiences of Pvt. James R. COLLINS, Co. F, 3rd TN Cavalry, from fighting Forrest in AL, to his capture and imprisonment at Cahaba, through his surviving of the Sultana disaster. What's really nice about this site is that fellow subscribers Ken Lee (CKen4XL@aol.com), Gene Shields (gshields@flash.net) and Elaine McDowell (elainej@arn.net)------all descendants or relatives of Pvt. J.R. COLLINS------worked together to assemble some substantive, first-hand information that hetherto has been largely unknown and unavailable to the rest of us Sultana enthusiasts! I'd encourage everyone to go check out their really nice site. And those of you w/ an interest in Cahaba Prison, or TN's 3rd Cavalry *definately* should check it out since J.R. Collins and his father, Pvt. Joseph Collins, both served w/ your own ancestor! Frankly, I'd like to see a lot more of these kinds of sites. Ultimately, we'll create a "Sultana web-ring" that very efficiently will connect all these pages so that anyone wishing to know/learn more about America's greatest maritime disaster can easily learn the facts and, I think more importantly, more about the actual people & families who were affected by the tragedy. Again, Happy New Year! Greg Reeves SULTANA-L and ANDERSONVILLE-L Listowner GGG Nephew of Lt. Tom REEVES: http://www.rapidnet.com/~greg/Tom greg@rapidnet.com --------------227BBE171EEC1FE9573E42E4--
