    1. [CW-POW-L] Roll Call
    2. Hi, I am brand new to this list and look forward to participating. My interest in the Civil War only began about 2 years ago when I couldn't find my GGGrandfather. His given name is Benjamin Irvin CLAIR. In a newspaper article (probably generated by his parents) it is stated that he died of disease, 1 Dec 1864 at Andersonville Prison although there is no record of him there and I do not have the Unit he was in or any other information re his military service. During a visit to the National Archives in Wash, DC, I found an Irvin CLAIR... from the same area, about the same age, about the same physical size as my Benj. Irvin CLAIR, but still haven't been able to prove they are one in the same. Irvin CLAIR, 19 years old, enlisted on 7 December 1863, in the 112th Regt. PA Volunteers, Private, taken POW at Chaffin's Farm, VA 29 Sep 1864. Died at Wilmington, NC hospital 29 March 1865 On one paper: MEMORANDUM FROM PRISONER OF WAR RECORDS it states: "Captured at Chafin's Farm VA Sept 19, 1864, confined at Richmond, VA Sept 29, 1864. Joined the Rebel army while a Pris. of War at Salisbury N.C. date not given. Paroled Oct 8 1864 (no place given)" On Co., Muster-out Roll it states: "Appears on Co. Muster-out Roll, dated City Point, VA, Jan 29, 1866; Last paid to June 30, 1864; Remarks: Died Mar. 29, 1865 Wilmington, NC" Does anyone have any suggestions what to look for next? I found no pension records... Would I find him in the Confederate Roster if he joined the Rebel army? I have so many questions..... but will save them for another time... Thanks for any help...
