The Confederates initially sent many of those prisoners the Libby Prison and Belled Isle - Jacob went to Belle Isle. When they transferred the prisoners to Andersonville, he was sent to Hospital 21 in Richmond, where 3 weeks later he died. He had enlisted at the beginning of the war, lying about his age, so when he died after almost 3 years of service he was just 18. When his parents got word, his father ran out and enlisted, to "get them that starved my boy". Christian, the father, survived the rest of the war, but returned a broken down man. Sue - Thanks for your efforts on the companion page!
