    3. Hi list When I was a child, I grew up 'alongside the cut' which was a canal. Canals are man made as well as railway cuttings. The name of CUTTS and it's variations according to what references are in books on old name meanings is from the trade of Armourer known in those times as A CUTHBERT at least that is what is given, there could be of course in more modern times be links with the Canals being known as the cut, and then again any type of deep channel in Road, Rail or any other transport system is known as a cutting, so take your pick.
