Hello List-- My grandmother was born Jemima Cutt. Her father's family was from the Orkney Islands. I was always told that a Danish fisherman wrecked his boat on or near Orkney, and that that is how the Cutt family got there. Specifically, the Cutt name appears to have originated on Sanday, oneof the Orkney Islands. My great-grandfather moved his large family to Edinburgh in the 1880's, and some time after that some members of the family started calling themselves 'Coutts'. I did notice that my great-uncle Robert is listed on the 1891 Census of Orkney as Robert Cutts (with the 's'). Are these names similar to anyone else's or am I on the wrong list??
