They had three sons Thomas (c.11/10/1825, Walls), Peter (c. 7/7/1827, Sandness) and James (c. 12/11/1832, Sandness). : : James and Barbara were married on the 25/11/1824 at Walls and then on the 26/11/1824 at Sandness. Barbara was the daughter of Thomas TWAT and Margaret JAMESON (m. 7 Dec 1790, Walls, Shetland). : : James Jnr married Helen Tait Bolt on 26th November 1857 at Walls. They had two daughters - Elizabeth Barbara Coutts (b. 16/11/1860, Lerwick) and Jemima Helen Coutts (b. 22/8/1862, Lerwick). Helen died mid 1860's and James went on to marry Mary Thompson on 2 June 1868 in Lerwick. They had three children of there own in Shetland, before going to live in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand and having another five children there. : : >From the 1861 Lerwick Census, James Jnr, was listed as a Grocer, living at 151 Commercial Street. Also living in the house at the time was his wife Helen, daughter, Elizabeth, boarder John Tait (Grocer), boarder Margaret Tait (dress maker ?), brother Peter Coutts (Sailor) and boarder Joan Williamson (Farm Servant). : : In the 1871 Lerwick census, James Jnr was listed as a General Merchant. Also living at the house was his wife Mary, daughters Elizabeth (Scholar), Jemima (Scholar), Georgina, son Thomas, his mother in law Phila Thomson (Farm Labourer), his brother Thomas Coutts (Sailor), lodger William Dickson (Clerk - Bank) and Ellen Thomson (Domestic Servant). : : : Regards : Sarah Matthews :
