Dear June, Welcome to the Cutts List! I do not have anything specific on Sarah Dandy (nee Cutts) b.c. 1830 Bilston, but on looking through the 1881 census for Staffordshire I find there are several born in Notts and some born in Derbys. I feel there must be a familial connection between these families although as yet do not have anything concrete. Sarah was born at Bilston c.1830 and there is a John H. Cutts born at Bilston c. 1833/4 - he may well be her brother. I do have a note that John Cutts b.c. 1814 at Blidworth, Notts. was married 20.4.1851 Nottingham St. Mary to a Mary Carpenter b.c. 1830 in Ottery St. Mary, Devon. ( He was described as a General Dealer and Master Haberdasher - not too far removed from Lace Manufacturing * - see below - which may have been going through a slump) . This would appear to be a second marriage for John and it may well be that his first marriage was to someone from the Bilston area and he settled there. Margaret at [email protected] is researching this family and may by now have more information. OR A John Cutts m. Catherine Housely at Radford Nottingham on 16.1.1834 and their daughter Ellen b.30.12.1838 at Nottingham married Charles Ralph 26.8.1860 at Wolverhampton Reg. Office - both living at Luke St. Bilston. John discribed himself as a Lace Manufacturer* on the marriage certificate. It is quite possible that this was the first marriage of the John above. If you (or Jim Cutts who has all the GRO extracts) can locate a death for Catherine Cutts in Bilston pre 1851 this would help prove this. Some of the Cutts worked on the canals which would account for them settling in different areas. I do hope this will help you further your researches and please do come back to the list with anything you find - that way we all gain more knowledge of other family groupings. Good Luck, Mavis, in Somerset researching all CUTTS in E. Dear Mavis Thank you for your reply to my e-mail, I too found a John H CUTTS on the 1881 census and thought it could be Sarah's brother. It is probably the same one you found.
