Dear All, Do you believe in ghosties in Family History research who just happen to pop up to point a finger when you are least expecting it? As I glanced down the earlier message (below) I had sent to you the name JOSLAND jumped out at me and I just knew I had seen it over the last couple of days whilst I had been looking in London areas for Francis Coutts and Sons - Acetopathic Practitioners of 34 Mecklenburgh Sq., St. Pancras, also 21 Hide Road, Ardwick, Manchester, and 65 Bath Street, Glasgow, all in 1876, and found Francis Coutts himself aged 75, at Largs, Ayr, Scotland, all as intimated in the Melbourne (Aus) Directory of 1876. I then scanned the Neighbours facility to find other Cutts/Coutts in the same area and found many, the following amongst them which is pertinent to your family line: Dwelling: 24 Albany St. Census Place: St Pancras, London, Middlesex, England Source: FHL Film 1341038 PRO Ref RG11 Piece 0179 Folio 43 Page 6 Marr Age Sex Birthplace Elizabeth JOSLAND U 45 F Exeter, Devon, England Rel: Head Occ: Milliner Susan JOSLAND W 79 F Exeter, Devon, England Rel: Mother Occ: Milliner Sarah CUTTS M 40 F Exeter, Devon, England Rel: Sister Occ: Dressmaker Arthur G. CUTTS U 10 M Islington, Middlesex, England Rel: Nephew Occ: Scholar Emily HENDERSON U 18 F Strand, Middlesex, England Rel: Serv Occ: General Servant -------- This seems to give you Sarah Jemima Josland , the wife of George Wheatley Cutts b.c. 1851 at West Retford who married in 1870 at St. James, Westminster (do not know exact date) and emigrated to Australia in 1882 presumably with her son Arthur G. aged 11, born Islington in 1871. There may be another coincidence in that Emily Henderson, 18, their servant, could be related to John and Annie (nee Henderson) Coutts living at 34 Mecklenburgh Sq. in 1881, along with Annie's sister Elizabeth Henderson, companion, Unmarried aged 33. I am sure you have the 1881 Census CDs so you can follow these through for yourself. This family of Acetic Practitioners originated in Scotland and travelled to Queensland, returned to London and Manchester and had connections with Nottinghamshire.... Please come back to me with anything you can add to the above.
