We’re looking forward to seeing a good mix of both familiar and new faces. But don’t take that to mean we’re focusing only on the conference. We’ve got a good bit of information for you so we’re not including the Best Practices section this week, just a ton of tips! But first, Elise Friedman, the Webinar Coordinator, would like your feedback. She’s looking for Surname projects that use Family Finder in their research. If your group does, please share any success you’ve had by completing this form: https://www.familytreedna.com/learn/forms/webinar-suggestions/. Select “Success Story” then choose “Surname Project using Family Finder.” Elise will be using the input in a future webinar, so thank you for anything you can share. Updates to the Family Tree - which will now be called myFamilyTree! Here are the release notes for updates that should be completed by early next week, if they’re not already in place by the time you read this. * Added a "Detailed Mode" setting. Enabling "Detailed Mode" hides pictures and shows full names, birth dates & location and death dates & location. * Fixed a bug where some deceased people were mistakenly marked living. You should now see more deceased people on your matches' family trees. * Added prompts to the bottom of the page that will hopefully encourage users to share more of their tree. First, the user if they would like to share their nodes for deceased family members that were born within the last 100 yrs. They can select to keep them private, show them to matches, or make them public. The second question asks the same question but in regards to living family members on their tree. Below is a screenshot of the first question. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_3246352_6e6268326c007cb7223747ebd46badd0/249284941e5f06156feefc9e7507ce3c> * You can now search for any name when uploading a GEDCOM. Before, you had to choose a name from a pre-defined list. * Added the ability to share a link to your family tree. You can now easily share it via email, Facebook, etc. * Added the ability to search by birth and death location. Before, you could only search for names. * Renamed Family Tree to myFamilyTree to avoid confusion. * Added a 1-time callout for new users to try "Ancestry Mode". This mode shows your direct ancestors and descendants for up to 15 generations. * Fixed a few issues that were causing some users to not be able to use the family tree * Provided an option for a user to not send an email to a kit's match when they have been linked on a Family Tree. About those Family Finder settings… Because matches are shown on myFamilyTree, we recently made an adjustment to the levels of Family Finder matches you’re able to see and about which you’ll be able to receive notifications. Look under Account Settings then Match and Email Settings. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_3246352_6e6268326c007cb7223747ebd46badd0/42b4f35a41aee9b07866d450525b0d85> You’ll see the options below: <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_3246352_6e6268326c007cb7223747ebd46badd0/a5fb2ecbd5ce871371bf4d7ec040e97f> IMPORTANT NOTE: If you turn off matches and emails for a level, you can’t see those matches, and they can’t see you. You can change the setting at any time. Be aware this may change the number of matches you have at any given time. Finally, this week’s tip: Because the shopping cart only shows whole products, not upgrades, when a group member orders an upgrade, you’ll see it listed as the whole test. For example, if someone orders a 67-111 upgrade for Y-DNA, you’ll see an order for a Y-111, even though the tester already has a Y-67. The order system prevents the order of a full Y-111 on top of an existing Y-67. That’s all for this week. Thanks for everything you do!
