    3. Apparently a Miss R.A. Walker of Unit 2, 6 Leslie St., Cannington, W.Australia 6107 was researching the above Cutts family(ies), but the entry was in the 1994 GRD. I have checked with an Australian lister and this person is no longer in the Telephone Directory - she may of course have married or moved by now. Does anyone have any knowledge of this lady as I am now trying to find more details of Cutts in the Manchester area at this time and would like to contact her. TIA Mavis

    3. Dear all I don't know if this is of any help. My Cutts ancestors came from Essex. My g grandmother, Sarah Ann Cutts was born in 1850 in Romford. Her parents were George Cutts, born 1829 in Hornchurch and Emma Quilter, born 1831 in Little Waltham. (They married 20 Oct 1850 at St Edwards Romford). If any of this is helpful, please get back to me and I will give more details. regards David ----- Original Message ----- From: David Cutts <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, July 12, 2001 8:45 PM Subject: [CUTTS] Henry James [WAS: [CUTTS] Fw: Subscribe] Hi, Firstly, my apologies if this response should have been directed either "off-list" or via Lesley. Any advice on list protocol is welcome. I've been "lurking" on this list for months but so far I've not responded to roll-calls because I'm embarrassingly new to genealogy and I can't decide how best to précis my family history. Oh, procrastination! However, when I saw Christina's enquiry it brought to mind a snippet I picked up months ago. At first I thought it could be connected to her searches. Sadly, on reflection, I suspect it's just coincidental but I offer the info anyway. Who knows? My paternal g.g.g'father (William Cutts Snr., a schoolmaster in Braintree, Essex but born in Royston, Cambs) had a son Albert Cutts (b.10JUN1840). I believe I've found Albert on the 1881 Census living at 3 Alma Rd., Sheerness, Kent. The census shows a wife (Catherine M. 34yrs born Sheerness), a daughter (also Catherine M. 13yrs also born Sheerness) and a son (Albert W. 3yrs also born Sheerness). The enumerator's handwriting is difficult to read but I think it shows Albert's occupation as "Admiralty Writer" at the "Hill Dk yd". Along with a few others on that particular census page, Albert's entry also has the initials "C.S." beside his occupation. I live not too far from the Family Records Office in London and I'll happily go there somewhen in the next couple of weeks to check the 1875-77 index of births for Henry James. I have some BMD stuff to look up for myself so one more search won't hurt. If Christine would care to email me whatever known facts she has about Henry James it might help me. So far, I've not explored CUTTS outside Essex and I've no idea about distribution across the Thames estuary from Essex (i.e. Kent) or in London, let alone nationwide. I note that the current emphasis of this list is on the Midlands and North of England. My current emphasis is to find out about William Cutts Snr.'s folks and where they came from. Was it Herts/Cambs/Suffolk or is there a Midlands connection? I'm descended from Albert's eldest brother, William Cutts JNR., who was a solicitor's managing clerk in Chelmsford, Essex. Enough already! Thanks for your patience. 2. JOHN TAYLOR
    3. My G Grandmother was a Mary Ann Cutts who married William Taylor 25th December, 1886 at Ecclesfield, Yorks. She was born in 1864 at Ulley, near Rotherham, the daughter of William Cutts and Ann Mozley. As a family they appear on the 1881 census living in Whitley (Ecclesfield) and William's occupation was farm bailiff. At the time Mary Ann was working as a domestic servant in Far Lane, Wisewood (Sheffield). The youngest son, Aaron was at some time later working as a horseman at Wentworth House close by. The daughters were Sarah Jane, Alice, Elizabeth and Ellen and the sons were Charles Colin and Thomas W. I would welcome any information at all about any of the above. There seems to have been another Cutts family in Ecclesfield who I cannot connect in any way with my family. John Taylor
