Matilda was the daughter of William & Jane WEBSTER and I have quite a bit on the WEBSTER/ELLIS families of Worksop, but don't know into which Cutts family Matilda married. Hello Everyone I am new to this list, so I thought I would post my interests Thanks for reading Best Wishes and happy hunting! Rachael Mary CUTTS (occ:file cutter)had William Robert Hunstan/Hunstone CUTTS on 3 February 1875, at 2 Independent Hill, Nottingham, there is no father on the birth certificate, so, I am assuming he was illegitimate, therefore maybe the HUNSTAN/HUNSTONE name has significance. At some point he moved to Sheffield, where he married: Esther HALL on 9 October 1898 at St Johns, Sheffield. Her address at the time was 20 Weigh Lane, Sheffield. Esther HALL died on 1 March 1924, by internal haemorrhage, while turning a mangle!!. Williams' address was 13 Shales Square, Duke Street, Sheffield, his occupation was Steeplejack, and family legend has it that he put the statue on top of the town hall in Sheffield.(Not sure how I would verify that!) He died in WW1 on 28 September 1916, in France, apparently he was not called up, but enlisted, much to the dismay of his family!. They had four children that I know of: Robert CUTTS, Ernest CUTTS, Lily CUTTS and my direct ancestor James William Hunstone CUTTS born 30 August 1902, the address was 9 Court, 13 House, Duke Street, Sheffield. James William Hunstone CUTTS was in the Territorial army (Engineers) for 14 years before being called up in 1939 to the 49th (West Riding) MVNL R.E (T.A), where he was wounded in the field and being sent back to England to Butley Park War Hospital, in Chertsey, Surrey, where to his great joy and pride he was visited by the then Queen (now Queen Mother). This was reported, I think in the Sheffield Star. He married Clara BARTON on 21 August 1922, at St Pauls, Norton Lees, they had two children, Joyce CUTTS born 23 January 1925 and Mary CUTTS, born 4 October 1928, The address was 7/3 Little London Road, Sheffield. Mary CUTTS married Douglas HOLMES 3 August 1946 at St Pauls, Norton Lees. Mary CUTTS and Douglas HOLMES had one child Douglas James Frederick Holmes (Douglas after his father, James after Mary's father and Frederick after Douglas' father!) on 21 March 1948, he married Ann HILL on 31 May 1969, they had two children, one of whom was me!! Once again, thanks for reading, any information you may have would be gratefully received, no matter how small. Rachael Holmes born in Sheffield, now in Lincoln

The Pinxton Lavinia was still unmarried and still alive in 1881. and living in Lichfield Street, Hanley where she had arrived around 1814 to keep house fro her father when he left Pinxton Pottery to work for Wedgwood. "My Lavinia Cutts married my g.g. Grandfather Robert Berrington in Wollaton in 1821 and came to The Potteries in 1826 to be landlady of The Albion Hotel in Hanley. She has now been found, unindexed, in the 1871 census, aged 75 and living with her widowed daughter Emma Lea (nee Berrington) at Emma's grocery and beer shop in Nile Street, Burslem, her husband Robert having died about 1840. The freebmd site gives her death as in the 2nd qtr 1871 which means that she was born in 1796. Her brother William died intestate in Retford earlier in the same year and Lavinia, being his sole living relation, got the lot (or rather the little!) but she died 3 months later. It is almost certain that she was christened in Whitewell like William but in the 71 census she gives her place of birth as Retford which would seem to indicate that that was where she and William were brought up. Has anyone any information on the Cutts family in the Retford area and Wollaton from about 1800 on, and if anyone is researching the Whitewell parish records, would they please keep an eye open for my Lavinia? Hi listers, In responding to a query on another list today with regards to the STREET name - which comes into several Cutts lines - I received the following reply - it may give some of you a clue to where to look for the origins of your family if they ended up 'down south' Good Hunting, Mavis "Hi Mavis Re the Cutts Family, try the Shardlow heritage centre,In your search. They have quite a record of other boatmen besides the Shardlow family. You wont see the names on the site, but they will reply to an e mail. I only found the Derby link to my history about 2 weeks ago,but have learned so much about the people and places. My family ''Street'' ended up In Norfolk, and trying to understand why was the learning part. My Family were In Derby the same time has yours, and the mystery of where they went Is easy to explain. It was about that time that the railway arrived In the area and the boatmen lost there trade. So they headed South,I found by tracing the route of the canal I have found others with the family name born en route."
Received from a helpful contact - I think I shall treat myself to this CD!. Mavis I did notice that you hadn't found the Samula/Tryphosa event. I joined the list for the chance that someone may have some information on my Sarah Cutts. Sarah Cutts was born 1839 and lists Birley Vale, Derbyshire as her birthplace. I believe that area is now part of Yorkshire's West Riding. Her father was Charles Cutts a miner. Her mother may have been named Martha. Sarah married James Gregory, 1863 in Sheffield, Yorkshire.
