Dear Listmembers I would like to welcome all the new subbers who have joined the list recently. The summer has now gone when a lot of the lists have been quiet, and now with the dark nights coming I thought we should have a roll call. For the new members, a roll call is simply a request for everyone to get their queries on the list for the best possible results. Let's start this roll call from Friday October 12 and run it until Sunday October 21, and let's see just how many of us can actually send our queries to the list! To make your query work harder for you... keep in mind the old rules and guidelines, and include as many of the following as possible: SEND: Please do not just hit the reply button and send the posting to me - send it to the list. SUBJECT LINE: Please try to make your subject lines as relevant as possible. HOW: How your query appears will often get subscriber's attention. Check spelling, grammar and format. WHO: State the names of people as completely as you can with surnames in capitals. WHEN: Dates are important, if you don't know the date try to put in a period (1790s, late 1800s etc.) WHERE: Mention the location of events (birth, marriage, death, etc.) in the body of the query. Include their migration path if you can. WHY: Why are you searching for this(these) individual(s)? Describe your connection to him/her. WHAT: Try to limit your query to one or two specific questions. Post another query with additional questions rather than putting them all into one. This way, each of your questions will stand out and get attention. REMEMBER: Your goal is to get information. Make your query work! CAUTION... You may wish to withhold personal data on living descendants. Once your message has been archived on RootsWeb, neither the data within nor the message can be removed from the archives. ALWAYS: Remember to thank anyone who answered your query, whether or not it was useful. They might not have any info now, but just might in the future, and be reluctant to send to an ungrateful person. TRY: To answer as many queries as you may be able to. i.e. any that you have info for. NOT just to say "I don't know anything". Also make certain that if your answer doesn't apply to more then a couple persons, please send it privately and not to the group. There are a lot of subscribers on the list who are new to me, yet we all share the same interest, so find those queries, make a posting, and maybe we will make a connection. Good luck in your searching. Lesley Bayston Staffs [email protected] searching Cutts in Derbyshire

A quick reminder to anyone wanting to unsubscribe, or for anyone you know who might want to subscribe. Another thing to remember... If you change email address you need to unsubscribe with your old address and resubscribe with your new one. 1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to [email protected] that contains (in the body of the message) the command unsubscribe and no additional text. 2. How to subscribe. For future reference (for instance, if your subscription is cancelled for whatever reason and you want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to [email protected] 3. How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large message). There are two steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to : [email protected] to discontinue mail mode. Second, send the command "subscribe" to [email protected] to start receiving digests. 4. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply subscribe again. 5. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to [email protected] It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both.
Please can u remove me from your lists for the present time. Many thanks
Dear Craig, I believe we corresponded a while ago! Titus was the son of Matthew Godber and Phoebe (Daykin) Titus was baptised 10.6.1816 at Stapleford. You say he died 1851, Teresa McClay believes he died in 1858 in Radford.q3-7b 100 Radford. Do either of you have the death cert? Titus Godber m. 7.8.1831 at St. Mary's Nottingham to Dorothy Cutts. Thankyou for telling me she was the daughter of John Cutts and Sarah Wilmott as I did not have this yet. Can you tell me what evidence you have for her parentage, please? In 1841 Titus and Dorothy were living at Hill Buildings, Lenton. William Cutts and Elizabeth Thompson m. 6.9.1830 Attenborough had a daughter Jemima who m. 20.11.1853 at Radford to a Thomas Godber, a brickmaker - do you know what relationship he had to Titus? That is all I have for now. Hi Listers, I am at present trying to sort out some of the Cutts families in Chilwell/Beeston/Long Eaton/Sandiacre as these are in a difficult area at the corner of the three counties Notts/Derbys/Leics and probably are listed in different counties, but are at an important junction of the waterways which were a main form of transport before the railway. I think they may get overlooked because they hop over the borders! Marriages in this area at this time include John Cutts of Sandiacre who married 24.12.1810 at Crich to Hannah Wheatcroft . John and Hannah Cutts were Wharfingers and had connections in Nottingham, Derbyshire and Manchester. This marriage has led me to look at other families who may have been connected with the canals. John Cutts m. Ann Bennell of Findern, Derbys, on 24.2.1801 at St. Marys, Nottingham (My ancestors) Also Donna Bowley, Colin Baker. William Cutts m. Hannah Wilmott 17.10.1802 at Hucknall Torkard. Probable ancestors of Dave Tomlinson, Niki Cutts, Sarah Line, John Cutts m. Sarah Wilmott 1.9.1807 at Chilwell. Ancestors of Craig. George Cutts m. Elizabeth Bartram 1810 at Warsop Robert Cutts m. Elizabeth Clark 26.7.1814 at Blidworth I am presently building up a family of William Cutts b.c. 1806 Chilwell who I believe married Elizabeth Thompson 6.9.1830 at Attenborough. This family seems to have links with Beeston, Selston, Attenborough, Radford, and Hucknall. If anyone has any extracts from the Chilwell records I would be pleased to receive them, particularly to find William's parents. I am always happy to share the information I have found on any particular family with those researching that family. It is impossible to put all the bits and pieces on the list, but I do keep James Cutts informed as I build them up so that he can include them in his One Name Study. I will find what information I have on Dorothy Cutts and Titus Godber and forward it to Craig with a copy to the list. I have a Mr Cutts in my family who married Barbara Clarke (born about 1830), daughter of farmer Allison Clarke who owned quite a lot of land around the village of Calow, near Chesterfield in Derbyshire. Barbara and her husband had a son called Allison Clarke. Does any of the above sound familiar? Christine

I am in touch with several of the Cutts researchers who are struggling over this branch of the family. First of all it is confused by the fact that there are two William and Hannah Cutts. (1) William Cutts m. Hannah Wilmott 17.10.1802 Hucknall Torkard. (2) William Cutts m. Hannah Spray 21.4.1810 Hucknall Torkard. If anyone with any definite proof of children from either of these marriages please let me know as this will help clarification. It is very unclear from the 1841 census how to definte these two families. There are two Hannah Cutts burials prior to 1841 Hannah Cutts age 41 died August 1831 and Hannah Cutts age 59 died December 1839. Can anyone positively attach either Hannah to the correct William? There is further confusion in that Hannah Cutts bapt 3.5.1815, parents William and Hannah (believed to be Wilmott) had nine children - all illegitimate. Yet she was obviously not a pauper from photographs of her and her family in the possession of a descendant so would seem to have had the support of a partner. Joseph Savage was a boarder with Hannah Cutts and admitted parentage of at least three of her children in 1847. PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP? Thanks in advance, Mavis, in Somerset. researching all Cutts in E. Midlands
