    1. Re: [CUTTS] 1841 census
    2. Ian BUTTERWORTH
    3. Hi Mavis & List, My 4 x Great Grandfather was Robert CUTTS. I know very little about him except that he married a Hannah and they had at least 3 children: - 1. Enoch Chr. 31 Oct 1813 in Brimington, Derby. I do not know if he married and had children or when he died. 2. James Chr. 12 Jan 1817 in Brimington, Derby. He is my 3 x Great Grandfather and he married Mary Allwood WOODWARD on 25 Dec 1834 in Brimington, Derby. They had 2 children Thomas and Amelia. 3. Sally Chr. 21 Sep 1817 in Brimington, Derby. Again I do not know if she married and had children or when she died. As there is a big gap between Enoch & James it is quiet possible that there were other children born to Robert & Hannah. It is also quiet possible that one of them was a "Thomas" because of the son of James being given the name Thomas. At this stage I do not have a "Thomas" as a sibling to Mary Allwood WOODWARD and this could lend a little bit of weight to the assumption that Robert & Hannah could have had a child "Thomas". If anyone has any info on any of these CUTTS I would certainly appreciate their details Talk to you later. 3. The name of CUTTS and it's variations according to what references are in books on old name meanings is from the trade of Armourer known in those times as A CUTHBERT at least that is what is given, there could be of course in more modern times be links with the Canals being known as the cut, and then again any type of deep channel in Road, Rail or any other transport system is known as a cutting, so take your pick. 3. Dear Gina, I am researching Cutts families - and my gt.gt.grandmother was Elizabeth Staton/Staten who married John Cutts in Radford, Nottingham, 1850. A distant relative, Frederick Cutts of Newthorpe, Notts., married an Elizabeth Farnsworth at Basford 28.2.1865. Frederick's grandaughter by his son Thomas Cutts and Mary Jane Anthony , -- Elsie Cutts married a Walter Foster. (no date probably circa 1932) Another possible relative, not yet proven, Joseph Cutts m. 25.12.1831 Mansfield Woodhouse to Abigail Shaw and they are both buried in the Farnsworth vault at Clay Cross. Their daughter Margaret Cutts m. Henry Farnsworth from Bagthorpe, Notts, (he was an Innkeeper) circa 1870 (not know where). There is a separate Cutts mailing list at [email protected] where you may find other relatives. James Cutts has all the GRO references for Cutts up to the late 1980s and he will be able to send you the marriage quarter - he is off list on holiday at the moment but will reply to you when he returns. I suggest you look in the North Notts area, perhaps Greasley/Eastwood/Ilkeston/Basford areas. If you send me your outline tree I may be able to help further. Regards, Mavis Johnson, researching all Cutts families in East Midlands. 1. [CUTTS] Heirloom Silver Spoon of 1789 vintage...need help identifying individual
    2. Eugene Hubbard
    3. Dear List. I need help in identifying the individual whose spoon I inherited. It was manufactured in England by S. Emery. and is engraved with the monogram JSC followed by a date of 1789. One of the troubling features in the initials is that they are three in number. (any thoughts?) As I have New England (Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine) CARTER, CHOATE, CURTIS AND CUTTS ancestors, I figured it had to be from one of those families. Any help would be most appreciated. I can provide a digital picture if it would help. Many thanks, E. Hubbard

    3. Hi Marlene, Thanks very much for your email and I do apologize that I have taken so long to reply. I have a brain injury (caused by an operation to remove of Cyst from my brain - it saved my life but has left me with a few problems - one being I find I can only manage to do 1 thing at a time). I can see no connection to your Line. I can only trace the Line back to my 4 x Great Grandparents James CUTTS & Mary Allwood WOODWARD. James was Christened on 12 Jan 1817 in Birmington, Derby. His parents were Robert CUTTS & Hannah and to date I have not been able to find any details on them. James & Mary had a son Thomas who was Chr. 21 Feb 1836 in Birmington. He sailed to Melbourne on the Acadia with 269 other passengers including a Richard THOMPSON who was latter to become his father-in-law. James was an Ironmonger by trade and became the Foreman at Mitchell's Iron Foundry in Bendigo. At the time of his death he had lived in Australia for 47 years. Could you please tell me which program you use to produce that wonderful chart you sent me as an attachment? Thanks again and I will talk to you later.
