Hello, I am new to this list. Ronald James CUTTS (11 April, 1931 at Fremantle - 16 February, 2014 at Victoria) married 1955 at Fremantle, Christine Florence DEAN (1930 at Geraldton, WA - ?). Ronald became a Major in the Salvation Army and I believe that Christine was in the Salvation Army too. Ronald and Christine's four daughters; Raelene, Anne, Lynley and Robyn were, I believe, born in Victoria, Australia I have it that Raelene married Warren -------, Anne married Kevin ------, Lynley married Roy ------ and Robyn married Stephen ------ - more than likely in Victoria, Australia. I would appreciate knowing the birthdates of the four girls - I know that Lynley was born in 1961 in Victoria - also their dates and places of marriage. Their husbands' surnames would be a bonus. Peter Gainsborough (Croydon, Surrey, England)

[1]ancestry This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: rnlweiss Surnames: Cutts Classification: queries Message Board: [2]Click here Message Board Post: I'm trying to resolve if William Porter Cutts and William Paul Cutts Sr are the same person or different people AND if the same person, which middle name is correct- Porter or Paul. I've started working with a professional genealogist and we believe they are the same person. Now we are more focused on determining which middle name is correct â Paul or Porter. In my CUTTS/GOLSEN tree, ( link: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/75572772/family ) go to James Monroe Cutts (my great grand father) and look for stories. The attached "story" is a family history directly transcribed from J.M.s own writing with some more recent updates by his descendants for their own branches. J.M. lists his grandfather as William Paul Cutts Sr, vice William Porter Cutts. All other documents that the professional genealogist and I have found only list "William P Cutts" with no middle name given. Based on her research to date, the professional genealogist said that she would give very heavy weight to J.M.s family history listing William Paul Cutts Sr. as the correct name and William Porter Cutts being incorrect because 1) with rare exception, we all know our grandparents full names and that would very likely be the case for J.M. and 2) we haven't found a single document that supports "Porter" being his middle name, only "P". She said that the Sr. and Jr. designations were not used much if at all back in the times when William P Cutts and his son William Paul Cutts were alive. If any one has a document that lists Porter, Iâd love to get a copy. Look forward to hearing from you. FYI From: Family Tree DNA [mailto:noreply@familytreedna.com] Sent: Tuesday, April 14, 2015 8:48 PM To: me@wexonline.net Subject: Global Family Tree Search! Email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_3297051_0e8d00b48c5d47eb948aec05fa1b7fab/173d71163ef0933c3d7d099a81d32995> Dear Group Administrators: We have an exciting feature announcement today that’s going to improve the visibility of your projects, as well as help you find individual testers in the Family Tree DNA database who have uploaded trees and chosen to be searchable. With Global Family Tree Search, not only have we improved the project search function, but we’ve added a search of myFamilyTree nodes. Let’s look at how it works! First go to www.familytreedna.com (of course). You’ll see in the upper right corner where the search field has been expanded. Type in a name to find individuals and projects. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_6249448_84c7fb2809615874b8e9fe72b129655e/26bcaab8bde9422333e23a58f55e05df> Type in a name to find individuals and projects. Here’s the whole page. It’s a bit hard to see, but we’ll look at the components in a minute. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_6249448_84c7fb2809615874b8e9fe72b129655e/042c0f7378f9d03d0978ee68582bd501> There’s a search bar on the left that can be expanded to search by date of birth, location, etc. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_6249448_84c7fb2809615874b8e9fe72b129655e/8674abde07b60c2ac6fcf1dd80f13810> In the center of the page, you'll see individual search results. Here’s the way those individual search results look if you’re not logged in to a kit. Someone browsing the site sees that there are matches to the name, and they’re instructed to buy a Family Finder test to see if they match. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_6249448_84c7fb2809615874b8e9fe72b129655e/84d64089e6102f717bb5bb8e732a7724> Here are the group results of the search. The list includes projects which list that surname in the project. The group name is clickable if they have a public website. As you can see below, Gone To Texas does not - it’s a private family group that is set to be visible in the search. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_6249448_84c7fb2809615874b8e9fe72b129655e/e1da12c5cdb4f74fdc9d361c494c90f9> When you log into a kit, your results will look essentially the same, with only slight differences. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_6249448_84c7fb2809615874b8e9fe72b129655e/1ca39638c9f7bf9daa9062f708ac40ce> If someone has set his or her profile to private, but the tree is public, you'll see the top kind of selection. If the person's profile and tree are both public, you'll see the bottom kind of match. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_6249448_84c7fb2809615874b8e9fe72b129655e/7b7244ef09a047b599b2461687d842a4> If someone’s tree is restricted to matches only, you’ll see that you need to be a DNA Match to see the result. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_6249448_84c7fb2809615874b8e9fe72b129655e/3d3ffe6fcec18e1d28d28302d97de1fc> You’ll also notice a new menu on the left of the page, indicated by the three lines with the small V pointing down. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_6249448_84c7fb2809615874b8e9fe72b129655e/29b587a7c44f852060095610415156d0> Here's the expanded menu that's more friendly for mobile devices. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_6249448_84c7fb2809615874b8e9fe72b129655e/c8e2a534ac87709a04e309f8e3f30470> To change how your tree or your profile is displayed, click on the menu in the upper left corner to go to the privacy settings or the account settings. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_6249448_84c7fb2809615874b8e9fe72b129655e/cda1522d14637a9f0c7077bd93e11a4f> <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_6249448_84c7fb2809615874b8e9fe72b129655e/ec95ed9e95bb7b747c0e52765ad36cd6> Under the Genealogy tab, you can choose your family tree settings at various levels. This page also links to other privacy setting pages, like what profile information we can show to non-matches. Under Account Settings you can choose the info we show to non-matches. FYI Mary Ellen From: Family Tree DNA [mailto:noreply@familytreedna.com] Sent: Friday, October 17, 2014 4:46 PM To: me@wexonline.net Subject: GAP Newsletter 10/17/2014 - Free Autosomal Transfers, Live Chat, and More! Email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_3297051_0e8d00b48c5d47eb948aec05fa1b7fab/173d71163ef0933c3d7d099a81d32995> Dear Project Administrators, Since we missed getting an issue out for you last week because of conference preparations, this week’s going to have double the content. Not only was the Decennial Family Tree DNA Conference on Genetic Genealogy a success, but we’ve spent the week preparing and launching some of the features discussed at the conference. Thanks to everyone who presented and attended. We’ll be working to nail down a date for next year shortly! Post-conference launches As Senior Director of Product Michael Gugel shared at the conference, for the first time ever, people that have taken an AncestryDNA™ or 23andMe© (V3) test can transfer into the FTDNA databases for free by visiting https://www.familytreedna.com/AutosomalTransfer? and following the instructions to upload their raw data file. Within an hour or two, we provide a preview of what’s waiting if they transfer by showing the top 20 matches along with an estimate of the total number of matches in the FTDNA database. Full functionality can be unlocked by either paying $39 or recruiting four other people to upload, thus unlocking the rest of the matches. Here are some important points for group administrators to know: 1. As of Friday afternoon, Ancestry was experiencing difficulty with file downloads. Our plan at present is to hold off on announcing the new transfer protocol to the entire customer base until those difficulties are resolved. If you (or your group members) have previously uploaded files to GEDmatch, there’s a fair chance the download will still be on your computer. Look for a filename like dna-data-yyyy-mm-dd.zip. 2. We only accept the 23andMe V3 chip that was used on tests sold between November 2010 and approximately November 2013. There are a couple of ways to find out what chip was used for your test other than simply the timeframe. One is size; v3 chip files are about 7.83 MB where V2 and V4 chips are smaller. If you’re tech savvy, you can unzip the file and check chromosomes: Chromosome 1 for v3 starts at 82154 (rs4477212) where v4 starts at 734462 (rs12564807)and v2 starts with position 742429 (rs3094315). 3. We do not have any plans to accept V2 or V4 chips. if you try to upload the wrong chip version, the system will tell you that the file doesn’t have sufficient data. Since neither chip contains enough of the SNPs included in Family Finder, we would have to impute too much data. Basically we’d have to make assumptions about the missing SNPs that we’re just not willing to make at this point. The myGroups Alpha Test launched this week with great participation from the groups involved. If your group wasn’t chosen, thank you for applying, we appreciate the interest. We’re already getting great feedback on the features, which include the ability to upload and share photos and documents as well as to interact with other group members. You’ll be hearing a lot more about this initiative in coming weeks. We’re excited about the potential the new design will have, and we’re sure you will be, too! Haplogroup administrators, check your email! We’re sending out the specs we need for your submissions to create new SNP Panels. At the conference, president Bennett Greenspan announced that the beta test of a new version of the old Deep Clade test was a success with the R-M222 subclade and we’re soliciting the assistance of haplogroup and subclade administrators to help fill out the rest of R1b and other haplogroups. We’ll be able to test between 30 and 90 SNPs at the same time for one low price so that Y-DNA testers can refine their haplogroups even more. We’ll provide more information to all admins soon, but haplogroup administrators will find the details you need in an email going out today. Customer Support is trying out a new contact method – live chat! You may initiate the chat 9 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday (except 12-1 on Friday). You will find the live chat on our Contact Us page or from the myFTDNA log in page. Please note that the live chat will remain with you through most of the Family Tree DNA websites, but has limited functionality on the shopping cart. Please, help us test out this feature this month (through November 10th) and let us know how you like it. I We have an exciting new development for Big Y BAM files! Once a BAM request is completed, testers will be able to download that file directly from their myFTDNA page. The tester will go to the Big Y results page and click on the blue ‘Download Raw Data’ button. He will see two green buttons: one has the VCF/BED zip file, the other the BAM zip file. The primary person on the kit will still need to send an email request for the BAM file to <mailto:helpdesk@familytreedna.com> helpdesk@familytreedna.com. It will take up to 48 hours to retrieve the file, as this is not an instantaneous process. Those of who have already requested their BAM file and received the link should already see the new green button for download. Administrators will NOT be able to click through from GAP to download unless you have full access to the tester’s kit. We will not be providing a link for customers for YFull at this time. You may want to contact YFull to request a way to upload directly to them. In the meantime, try a large file storage solution, such as Dropbox. We’ll have some helpful information on this process in the Learning Center next week. Finally, this week’s tip: Because of the way that the shopping cart works, upgrades are no longer shown as upgrades such as Y-12-37. They show as the full test, both in the order history and on your order pages in GAP. The order system prevents the order of a full test when an upgrade is all that’s necessary. And for your convenience, here’s a chart of Y-DNA and mtDNA test prices with upgrades. Test Standard Price Y12 $59 Y25 $109 Y37 $169 Y67 $268 Y111 $359 Test Standard Price Y12 - 37 $99 Y12 - 67 $189 Y12 - 111 $339 Y25 - 37 $49 Y25 - 67 $148 Y25 - 111 $249 Y37 - 67 $99 Y37 - 111 $220 Y67 - 111 $129 Big Y Standard Price Big Y $575 Test Standard Price mtDNA Plus $69 Full mt Seq. $199 HVR1-FMS $159 HVR2-FMS $149 That’s all for this week, folks. We’ll have a lot more to share next week. Thanks for all your hard work. We appreciate you! Email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_2747106_d153f352494a9dd227a21afd4ff9d287/634c9290b075053770e146168a120a05> Dear Group Administrators, This time next week we’ll be at the Hyatt North Houston, setting up for the FTDNA 10th Annual International Conference on Genetic Genealogy. We’re looking forward to seeing a good mix of both familiar and new faces. But don’t take that to mean we’re focusing only on the conference. We’ve got a good bit of information for you so we’re not including the Best Practices section this week, just a ton of tips! But first, Elise Friedman, the Webinar Coordinator, would like your feedback. She’s looking for Surname projects that use Family Finder in their research. If your group does, please share any success you’ve had by completing this form: https://www.familytreedna.com/learn/forms/webinar-suggestions/. Select “Success Story” then choose “Surname Project using Family Finder.” Elise will be using the input in a future webinar, so thank you for anything you can share. Updates to the Family Tree - which will now be called myFamilyTree! Here are the release notes for updates that should be completed by early next week, if they’re not already in place by the time you read this. * Added a "Detailed Mode" setting. Enabling "Detailed Mode" hides pictures and shows full names, birth dates & location and death dates & location. * Fixed a bug where some deceased people were mistakenly marked living. You should now see more deceased people on your matches' family trees. * Added prompts to the bottom of the page that will hopefully encourage users to share more of their tree. First, the user if they would like to share their nodes for deceased family members that were born within the last 100 yrs. They can select to keep them private, show them to matches, or make them public. The second question asks the same question but in regards to living family members on their tree. Below is a screenshot of the first question. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_3246352_6e6268326c007cb7223747ebd46badd0/249284941e5f06156feefc9e7507ce3c> * You can now search for any name when uploading a GEDCOM. Before, you had to choose a name from a pre-defined list. * Added the ability to share a link to your family tree. You can now easily share it via email, Facebook, etc. * Added the ability to search by birth and death location. Before, you could only search for names. * Renamed Family Tree to myFamilyTree to avoid confusion. * Added a 1-time callout for new users to try "Ancestry Mode". This mode shows your direct ancestors and descendants for up to 15 generations. * Fixed a few issues that were causing some users to not be able to use the family tree * Provided an option for a user to not send an email to a kit's match when they have been linked on a Family Tree. About those Family Finder settings… Because matches are shown on myFamilyTree, we recently made an adjustment to the levels of Family Finder matches you’re able to see and about which you’ll be able to receive notifications. Look under Account Settings then Match and Email Settings. <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_3246352_6e6268326c007cb7223747ebd46badd0/42b4f35a41aee9b07866d450525b0d85> You’ll see the options below: <http://static.sendgrid.com/uploads/UID_903056_NL_3246352_6e6268326c007cb7223747ebd46badd0/a5fb2ecbd5ce871371bf4d7ec040e97f> IMPORTANT NOTE: If you turn off matches and emails for a level, you can’t see those matches, and they can’t see you. You can change the setting at any time. Be aware this may change the number of matches you have at any given time. Finally, this week’s tip: Because the shopping cart only shows whole products, not upgrades, when a group member orders an upgrade, you’ll see it listed as the whole test. For example, if someone orders a 67-111 upgrade for Y-DNA, you’ll see an order for a Y-111, even though the tester already has a Y-67. The order system prevents the order of a full Y-111 on top of an existing Y-67. That’s all for this week. Thanks for everything you do!
