Here are the details, point by point. * Customers can now transfer 23andMe© V4 and AncestryDNA™ V2 files in addition to the 23andMe© V3 and AncestryDNA™ V1 files that Family Tree DNA accepted previously. MyHeritage and Genographic transfers will be supported in the coming weeks. * Family Tree DNA still does not accept 23andMe© processed prior to November 2010. A Family Finder test will need to be purchased. * 23andMe© V3 and AncestryDNA™ V1 now receive a full list of matches and the ability to use the Matrix feature FOR FREE. For only $19, the customer can unlock the Chromosome Browser, myOrigins, and ancientOrigins. <https://gallery.mailchimp.com/390d5a162ff8d6f1abfee7834/images/fcb9acfc-393b-4048-b184-7e6dd2eee0d4.jpg> * 23andMe© V4 and AncestryDNA™ V2 receive all but the most speculative matches (6th to remote cousins), also for free. After transferring, if the customer wants to receive speculative matches, they will have to submit a sample and have a Family Finder run at the reduced price of $59. * Matches should take somewhere between one and 24 hours to appear, depending on the volume of tests in the autosomal pipeline. * myOrigins update will be released in the coming weeks. Until then transfers will include only broad populations. * Additionally, all previously transferred files that have not been unlocked will receive their matches and have access to the Matrix feature for free as long as the release form is signed. These kits will be also be able to unlock the other Family Finder features for $19. If the transfer was on a kit with another product where the release form has already been signed, then the matches will appear with no further action necessary. * The Autosomal Transfer webpage has been enhanced to include a new image and a FAQ section. The FAQ section is displayed towards the bottom of the page. <https://gallery.mailchimp.com/390d5a162ff8d6f1abfee7834/images/fd42713c-29f7-482f-b05b-c6458cf109df.jpg> * If a customer tries to transfer the same autosomal file a second time, a message will be displayed that the file is a duplicate and will list the kit number of the original kit. * The main Autosomal Transfer topic in the Learning Center has been updated. This topic contains the most recent information and now includes all transfer subtopics on the same page. Additional FAQ information will be added to this topic as needed in the future. As always, we appreciate your work with your projects! Has anyone doing research on the Cutts families in the USA come across a Chester? If so, where was he from and what family is he aligned with, please? Mary Ellen
For those who don't know me, I am Mary Ellen Wexler. My great grandfather Charles Benjamin Cutts, gs/o William P Cutts and Mary Pate, and ggs/o Joseph Cutts, was listed as the son of Susan Cutts in various documents. I have long believed that Susan took in a relative (CB) whose parents had either died or were unable to care for him. Recent DNA testing with proven cousins, has shown this to be the case. Now the process begins to determine his true parentage. It has been a long time since I have queried the group about any hints you all may have on this group. I sent a family group sheet just before sending this. All these folks were from AL, GA, & FL. Due to family matters, I will no longer be administering the DNA test group I started years ago. Richard Weiss, a descendant of Joseph Cutts, will be taking over the duties of Admin. He has some really good insight into what to do to further this project and has a lot of knowledge about DNA and how to use it in Genealogy sleuthing. You will be hearing from him soon. Website for the group is below and we encourage all of you to join us. https://www.familytreedna.com/public/Cutts%20DNA/ I would also like to suggest each of you post any info you may have on your families and ask questions you would like to find answers to. Perhaps there are new people (or new clues from folks) on the mailing list. Good luck to all of you and Happy New Year! Mary Ellen

Hi Mary Ellen, Are you using FTM? I'm still using Version 11. Do I here groans out there? It's very simple, does what I need. My husband used 12, I think, and I found that very confusing. The biggest problem, I couldn't see all the information I wanted on one page, you had to click back and forth. At my age and the place where I am in rootin', I really don't think I have a need for bigger and better. :-) One of my daughters works for Micro Soft and she has listened to my moans and groans for some time now, about all the changes. Just no consideration for the Seniors - ha. Anxious to hear your thoughts. Beatty, CG *************************************** Ancestry announced in December that it plans to discontinue sale of its desktop genealogy software, Family Tree Maker, though the company will continue to offer tech support through 2016. Family Tree Maker has enjoyed years of popularity for its ease of use and as a tool for syncing in a private format the information that one posts on a Public Member Tree. Many genealogists consider it their software of choice. We are often asked in the Genealogy Center about the best software programs for family history research. Fortunately, even with the discontinuance of Family Tree Maker, many other options exist. You can read reviews of the top ten genealogy programs on the website, “2016 Best Genealogy Software Review: Reviews and Comparisons” <http://genealogy-software-review.toptenreviews.com/> http://genealogy-software-review.toptenreviews.com/. If you plan to shop for a new desktop genealogy software program in 2016, you should visit this site. The “Best Genealogy Software Review” analyzes ten software programs: Legacy Family Tree, Family Historian, Family Tree Maker, RootsMagic, Ancestral Quest, Heredis, Family Tree Heritage, Brother’s Keeper, GenBox Family History, and WinFamily. Each of them are evaluated by six different criteria: web capabilities, creating connections, charting capabilities, citations & organization, help & support, and supported configurations. Within each of these topics are a series of specific sub-categories that allow you to see at a glance the capabilities of a particular program. The website also provides direct links to each of the software sites, where you can learn more about each product. By a large margin, the reviewers like Legacy Family Tree best, but RootsMagic and Family Historian are also popular. Undoubtedly, more news will appear in 2016 regarding the demise of Family Tree Maker and the best alternatives for replacing it. Ancestry has already announced that it is exploring possible relationships with other software publishers about providing full integration to its website. Stay tuned for more developments. If you use Family Tree Maker, it may be wise to wait awhile for new software announcements before choosing to purchase an alternative.
