Hi Mary Ellen No offence taken at all. With the list being so quiet it was always good to see your posts, and I hoped they would generate more postings. A few people have recently posted, which is very encouraging, let's hope it continues. Lesley -----Original Message----- From: CUTTS [mailto:cutts-bounces+lbfamhist=gmail.com@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Mary Ellen Wexler Sent: 04 August 2017 13:16 To: cutts@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CUTTS] Website is now removed OOPS, sorry, Lesley. This message was addressed to the Edge folks as well and I was administrator for it and referred to it as being sponsor. I used that term as it seemed more benign. I only included the Cutts folk as some of them had frequented my website as there was a small amount of material on that line as well. I was just being lazy and I am sorry for any confusion or offense. Kindest regards, Mary Ellen -----Original Message----- From: CUTTS [mailto:cutts-bounces+me=wexonline.net@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Lesley Sent: Friday, August 4, 2017 2:21 AM To: cutts@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CUTTS] Website is now removed Thank you Mary Ellen for sponsoring the list, however I have been the list admin for about the last 10 years. Your contributions have always been very welcome, especially as the list has been much quieter in recent years. I know of no reason why the list should not continue and why it needs a new sponsor. None of the other lists for which I am admin have a sponsor. Has everyone traced their Cutts back as far as is possible? Have you reached a brick wall? Let us try and help each other and make the list vibrant again by posting our dead ends. Wendy That is correct. I've found various land and other records that indicated that she lived next door to Joseph Cutts in Houston Co. I think the widow of Paul Cutts (Lucretia) loved to Georgia to live with other Cutts relatives. Does anyone see her in their records. Paul was the son of William Cutts Sr. -----Original Message----- From: CUTTS [mailto:cutts-bounces+wbashinski=cfl.rr.com@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Richard Sent: Friday, August 04, 2017 10:07 AM To: cutts@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CUTTS] CUTTS Digest, Vol 12, Issue 9 Hi All I've been working to identify the parents / ancestors of Joseph Cutts d.~1832 in Houston Co. Joseph is the father of Mary Cutts, Elijah Cutts, Elisha Cutts, William Paul Cutts Sr (also in trees as William Porter Cutts), Nancy Cutts, Elizabeth Cutts, Matilda Cutts, Milbry Cutts, Phoebe Cutts and Sarah Cutts. Autosomal DNA (atDNA) testing and land records are showing a close relationship to Sharrod/Sherod and Major Cutts families. atDNA is pointing back to William and Paul Cutts of North Carolina Looking for patrilineal Cutts descendants of Sharrod and Major Cutts to Y-DNA test. Also, want to make everyone aware of the Cutts DNA project at Family Tree DNA. Here is a link to the websit: https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/cutts-dna/about The project currently is a Y-DNA only project but I will be converting it to a combined autosomal DNA / Y-DNA / Mt DNA project. If you have tested at ancestryDNA or 23andMe, you can transfer your DNA to FTDNA for $19. Also encourage all Cutts DNA testers to transfer to GEDMatch (free). Hello, I am also interested in tracing my Cutts relatives. I have a Sherrod Cutts in my tree. He left North Carolina and moved to Alabama where he died. His son, William Avery Cutts went to Mississippi and I come down through that line. Did Joseph have relatives in North Carolina? I would love to get my brother to do the DNA test and see if these families are kin. -----Original Message----- From: CUTTS [mailto:cutts-bounces+wbashinski=cfl.rr.com@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Susan WILLINGHAM Sent: Friday, August 04, 2017 11:36 AM To: cutts@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CUTTS] CUTTS Digest, Vol 12, Issue 9 Hi Richard, My husband is Allen Sherrod Cutts Willingham. We have a portrait of Col. Allen Sherrod Cutts hanging in our home. He would be my husband second great grand father...I think I have that right. My husbands mother, born in 1919 was also named Allen Sherrod Cutts which can be a bit confusing (her dad died in the 1919 flu epidemic before she was born, and so ...the father's name ). Allen has one brother and 3 sisters. One of the sisters recently did the DNA through Ancestry and I'll forward this info to her, so perhaps she can transfer the info. My brother in law has talked about doing the DNA too...I'll encourage both my husband and my brother in law to do this. Will this help to establish that Joseph and Allen Sherrod were both sons of Major Cutts and know back farther than that? Fascinating to me. You are timely in that, while not related, I did the DNA through ancestry and ended up finding a half brother I didn't know existed. It has been a fascinating discovery. Hi Susan Thanks for responding. Great news about the Cutts testers. Look forward to hearing from them. I'm best reached at RNLWEISS@ gmail.com If your husband has any maternal Cutts uncles or male descendants of those uncles that can take a Y-DNA test that would be great! All the DNA tests are currently on sale. If you go to www.DNAAdoption.com and click the links at the bottom, you will help searchers at no cost to you- and you get the sale price. Y-DNA testing is only offered at FamilyTreeDNA. I mention DNAAdoption because of your recent 1/2 brother find. DNAAdoption is a 501c(3) non profit that helps everyone with focus on helping adoptees, donor conceived and birth families. We are all volunteers- no one is paid. If you need help with reunion let me know. I've been in the adoption search and reunion world for years. To clarify, Joseph Cutts appears to be the brother of Sherrod and Major Cutts Look forward to collaborating with you. If you send me your email, I'll send you my research findings so far. Hi Richard, My husband is Allen Sherrod Cutts Willingham. Look forward to seeing where it all leads. I am looking for the Ancestors of Harry Cutts who married Maris Jane Batten on 8th July 1877, when he was 19 so he was born around 1858/9 I think in Clan, Suffolk, England. I think his father was a Charles Cutts, a Gas fitter born around 1834 Does anyone have a link to them and their Ancestors? Thanks for any help, Simon

OOPS, sorry, Lesley. Hi All I've been working to identify the parents / ancestors of Joseph Cutts d.~1832 in Houston Co. GA. I have removed the website and am going to advise Rootsweb that I will no longer be sponsoring the mailing list. I will also remove myself from the DNA group management. As I said before, if anyone wishes to take any of this over, please contact me. Thanks for all your support and help over the years. I wish you continued success in searching for your roots! Good morning! After the death of my mother and sister, I have done a good bit of "soul searching." I realize I have done very little research and have not added to the hard information on the website, so have decided to take the site down within the next few weeks. I will also remove myself from sponsoring the mailing list and DNA project, so will need someone to take over the responsibilities for them. If you are interested in doing so, please, let me know. (Richard, thanks for taking over Cutts project.) If anyone has any desire to continue or to rework a site (or simply wants to use any of the material on the site for their personal use), please feel free. I have enjoyed the many years of working with you all. I have also enjoyed meeting numerous people who have been researching their families. Some of you have become friends and I will try to keep in touch a bit, but no promises, unless you write me first. Hubby and I are going to be moving and doing a good bit more traveling. I hope you all continue finding the information you are looking for and that you enjoy this "disease" for many years to come! Good luck and Happy Hunting! Kindest regards, Mary Ellen
I have been tracking the descendants of the Cutts family in Maine in 1640 for the passed 30 years. I would welcome the chance to exchange Cutts and related family information to anyone who is interested. I think I may have found another Bert Cutts photo while I wasn't even looking! This would have been taken likely between 1914 and 1919. Thanks for the answer Phil. I thought the guy second from left looked familiar; I believe he may be Harry Cutts, brother of Herbert Cutts whom I wrote about in the book, who was killed by a train near Fairy Meadow. Note hairline is the same, proportions and bone structure are the same, and in particular his way of standing with his feet unusually splayed is the same. They were both in Balgownie in the last couple of years of the 1910s, but were likely both residing in North Kembla earlier in the 1910s, Herbert worked with timber in the mines between photography, so that also fits. Mary Ellen If you are not producing enough spit, try the process in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvD9pZ2wH4Q Lots of posts on the ISOGG Facebook page about it working for both ancestry and 23andMe. If you do get a good sample to 23andMe, hope you will transfer your results to GEDMatch (free). Curious to know why you aren't mtDNA testing with FTDNA? If it works, hope you will test at ancestry eventually. I need all the Joseph Cutts descendants I can to keep trying to triangulate to William and Paul Cutts of NC and all the working trees are on ancestry. Hope you are doing well. Went over to visit the graves at the Old Dorcas cemetery this past December. Uncle Laurence, whom you've met, went along as did his sister LaNelle (my Mom) and brother Jimmy. I tried twice to have my DNA tested by 23 And Me, but they failed to find sufficient saliva in my returned kit. Do any of you have suggestion for Female ethnic testing site, please? Need cheek swab test, evidently. Mary Ellen
