To Tom & Ken, I have followed your messages with great interest as I always do with a CUTHBERTSON/Lanarkshire connection. I too verified Mgt. Tod CUTHBERTSON's death on SP, though as I didn't spend any pennies, I didn't get the details! Given that the LDS member got that right, it may well be that the other info submitted was also accurate, and may indicate insider family knowledge. (A pity there are no contact details.) Certainly the 1841 census info would tie in. Robert & Helen CUTHBERTSON of the right age & with children of the right age really do have to be them; I wouldn't worry about the birth place inaccuracy, as that happened quite frequently. FreeCen has Stone Mason as occupation, and I should imagine that this applies to the lads as well. A 14 year old Robert seems entirely likely, and the other gaps would be nicely filled by Margaret and by Marion, who was the only IGI entry taken from the OPRs and who may well have been in Glassford in 1841. There is too little detail in that census for positive identification of Margaret, though F.S. in Barony would seem likely, but even then there are two of them. If it was a James CUTHBERTSON & wife who died in 1850 & 1852 respectively, then neither of them is likely to be yours, Tom, so I wouldn't be giving priority to pursuing that line of enquiry. It might be worth trying to find out what happened to other members of the family. Was there any chance that others also emigrated? The parents even? I see that young William's second name was BROWNLI (E); wasn't there a CUTHBERTSON/BROWNLIE connection somewhere in the area? Best wishes, Sheena Ireland -----Original Message----- Subject: [CUTHBERTSON] Robert Cuthbertson & Helen Riddell m. 1817 at Glassford/East Kilbride, Scotland Hello Listers, This posting is to correct the title of my earlier posting, from "James Cuthbertson and Helen Riddell (Ellen Riddle) married 1817 at Glassford, Scotland" to Robert Cuthbertson and Helen Riddell married 1817 at Glassford/East Kilbride, Scotland". Thanks to Ken Cuthbertson of New Mexico, U.S.A, from whom, in a few short hours, I have received an enormous amount of information, I am now completely sure that Helen Riddell's husband was named Robert and not James Cuthbertson. I will now 1) correct a history of my twig made some 25 years ago. 2) make a posting to a local (Goldfields, Victoria, Australia) Mailing List to see if anyone can find records for Robert's son, James, who arrived at Geelong, Port Phillip, Victoria, Australia on the Storm Cloud in December 1854, aged 37, with his sister Janet, aged 21-23, my great great grandmother. They became separated, allegedly never to make contact again. 3) try to track down the Cuthbertsons who DID die at Thornibank/Thornliebank, Scotland on 3 September, 1850, and at Pollockshaws, Scotland on 7 January,1852. Given that both Robert and Helen were alive at census date in 1851, at least one of the dates can't apply to them! Tom Woolman,Victoria, Australia
