    1. Re: [CUTHBERTSON] Hi
    2. Hi Scott, She left Scotland in 1871 and died in another country. I use ScotlandsPeople but haven't had any success there except to find her all of her siblings and both parents. I knew who her sister was so could put the rest of the family together. ScotlandsPeople is a wonderful site and well worth the money which is minimal. I use to write letters to GROS to find records before ScotlandsPeople was available. Much easier and quicker with them and sometimes more information than from GROS. In some instances I have received better records from GROS with more information on them than ScotlandsPeople had. I do have correct spelling for Ardrossan. The Androssan was a typo but thanks for mentioning it. Never thought to look in the Saltcoats and the Stevenston records as I was unaware of the closeness of the towns. I will see what I can find in the Three Corners records. 1841 census does not give the birthplace. It wasn't until 1861 that her birthplace as given as Ardrossan. Couldn't follow the ages thru the census they were so far apart from census to census. I have her husband's birth record and their marriage record so that helped with the ages. Best wishes, Janet -----Original Message----- From: ScotsCotNM <[email protected]> To: cuthbertson <[email protected]> Sent: Sun, Mar 9, 2014 4:56 pm Subject: Re: [CUTHBERTSON] Hi Hi Janet, Looking at your 2 most recent postings.... The first question that occurs to me is whether she lived her whole life in Scotland? If so, and if she died after 1855, when civil registration began, her death certificate might tell you more information, or at least confirm what you have. The ScotlandsPeople website has many digitalized records of parish baptismal/marriage registers, wills, post-1855 civil registrations, etc., and the site is very searchable. (You buy "credits" with them rather than taking out a membership, which is really good for folks like me who sort of do genealogy seasonally.) I think the parish you mean is "Ardrossan" rather than "Androssan"? It is worth looking into the Saltcoats and Stevenston records as well since the "Three Towns" were almost one town-plex long since. There were some early ecclesiastical censuses (pre-1841) done by the local minister. See: http://www.threetowners.com/ The 1841 census, btw, is fairly vague, has rounded ages, etc. 1851 and following tend to be much more accurate. All the best, Ken C. So fare mine are in Androssan and Irvine, Ayrshire but later move on to Dumbartonshire. Mine is Kilmaurs in Ayrshire, just north of Kilmarnock. I have our line back to 1760, with a few disjointed earlier facts. Ken C. In a message dated 3/8/2014 12:23:17 P.M. Am starting to work on my genealogy where I left off some years ago.
