I am not clear if it shows who were the parents of Joseph was or not. What exactly makes you believe that they were James and Euphemia? I am going to the GRO in Edinburgh next week for 2 days of research so I will have a look for any births/marriages of a Joseph Cuthbertson.
hi sandra, i'm not seeing a joseph james, son of james and euphemia. i am pasting exerpts from my data below. i am listing james and euph's children, (prefaced by ........2). there is a grandchild, which i have included, named james (3rd generation of james'), born 1822, who is married to a mary gordon. however, i see no children for them named peter, isabelle or george. perhaps you would like me to send you the pdf file? it is supposed to include the full lineage, but if your branch has been missed it would be very good to have it added. the pdf file includes the name and e-mail address of the author, david millan, who would certainly love to know about any missed relatives. the pdf on euphemia's ancestors also dates back to about 1668, as i recall. let me know if you would like these files; they are really very interesting. heather 1 James Cuthbertson b: Abt. 1771 in LNK, SCT .. +Euphemia Turner b: 11 August 1777 in LNK, SCT m: 7 August 1796 in LNK, SCT ........ 2 John Cuthbertson b: 23 June 1797 in LNK, SCT d: Unknown ............ +Margaret Shields b: 6 December 1802 in LNK, SCT m: 6 December 1829 in LNK, SCT d: Unknown .........2 William Cuthbertson b: 16 February 1799 in LNK, SCT d: 5 April 1882 in Norway Bay, Pontiac Co, QC, CAN ............ +Charlotte Prosser b: Abt. 1798 in England m: Bef. 1821 d: 11 January 1858 in Norway Bay, Pontiac Co, QC, CAN ........ 2 James Cuthbertson b: 16 January 1802 in LNK, SCT d: 6 August 1895 in Norway Bay, Pontiac Co, QC, CAN ............ +Elizabeth Stewart b: 1800 in LNK, SCT m: 18 November 1821 in LNK, SCT d: 28 December 1888 in Norway Bay, Pontiac Co, QC, CAN .................. 3 James Cuthbertson b: 13 March 1822 in LNK, SCT d: 14 February 1914 in Norway Bay, Pontiac Co, QC, CAN ...................... +Mary Anne Gordon b: 1838 in QC, CAN m: 12 April 1859 d: 4 January 1877 in Norway Bay, Pontiac Co, QC, CAN ........ 2 Isobel Cuthbertson b: 5 September 1804 in LNK, SCT d: 14 March 1873 ............ +Pierre Alexandre Denys de Laronde b: Unknown m: 1833 in Ste-Marthe, QC, CAN ........ 2 Norman Lockhart Cuthbertson b: 12 September 1808 in LNK, SCT ........ 2 Lewis Cuthbertson b: 20 March 1811 in LNK, SCT d: 25 January 1890 in Norway Bay, Pontiac Co, QC, CAN ............ +Elizabeth Reid b: 26 August 1810 in Nettleshell, S.C., CAN m: in CAN d: 28 January 1890 in Bristol Twp, Pontaic Co, QC, ........ 2 [242] Thomas Cuthbertson b: 12 March 1814 in LNK, SCT d: 8 May 1901 ............ +Margaret Russell b: 1824 in Scotland m: 1 April 1839 in Arnprior, McNab Twp, ON, CAN d: 1860 ........ *2nd Wife of [242] Thomas Cuthbertson: ............ +Martha McClellan b: Abt. 1828 m: 14 October 1862 in Bristol, Pontiac Co, QC, CAN ........ 2 Agnes Cuthbertson b: 10 May 1816 in LNK, SCT d: 29 June 1903 in Maple Ridge, Pontiac Co, QC, CAN ............ +Thomas Dods b: 6 December 1803 in Stirling, SCT m: 1836 in Lanark, ON, CAN d: 1878 in Bristol, Pontiac Co, QC, CAN ........ 2 Robert Cuthbertson b: 1820 in LNK, SCT d: 8 July 1903 in Norway Bay, Pontiac Co, QC, CAN ............ +Jane Reid b: January 1821 in Paisley, SCT m: 30 April 1850 in North Clarendon Parish, North Clarendon, QC, CAN d: 1 May 1901 in Bristol Twp, Pontiac Co, QC, CAN [email protected] wrote: Hi Heather: James and Euphemia's son Joseph James b. 1824 in Scotland married Mary Unknown and had children: William, James, Peter, Geore Edward, Isabella, etc. Do you by chance known the surname for Mary Unknown above? Hello cousins, It's been a couple of years, so I thought I'd post some of my brick walls and see if anybody has any helpful new leads. The sticking points are noted with the question marks: Brick Wall #1: James Cuthbertson of Mosside, maltster in Kilmaurs ? birth unknown (circa 1718 is a good guess) and family of origin unknown, (known that he married in 1739 @ Kilmaurs to first wife Mary Walker, she died late 1757 or early 1758) ? second marriage unknown (possibly to Janet Templeton in August 1758, recorded @ Kilmaurs & Dreghorn) ? birth of son James (family tradition says June 1759) who later lived at Habbieauld, Kilmaurs, which included his father's Mosside property. ? other children ? death (sometime between 1767 and 1809, probably before 1788) **************************** Brick wall #2: James Cuthbertson of Habbieauld, Kilmaurs ? birthdate, and mother's identity unknown ? why he's listed as "of this parish" in the record of his marriage to Margaret Tod in Fenwick, 1779 *************************** Brick wall #3: James Cuthbertson of Gardrumhill, Fenwick (son of James Cuthbertson of Habbieauld) ? disappears sometime between 1826 and 1843, never heard of again. (family tradition says he may have been lost at sea) ************************ Brick wall #4: Margaret Shedden, wife of James Cuthbertson of Gardrumhill, Fenwick ? family of origin unknown (family records list her born March 4 or 5, 1779, and we know she had a sister Jean Shedden who married Alexander Watt in 1809, also in Fenwick) ? marriage date unknown (believed to be circa 1798) ******************** Brick wall #5: James Cuthbertson, eldest son of James C. of Gardrumhill, Fenwick ? believed born ca. 1799, no record of any marriage or children, or where he went or when he died. (Family lore says he went to West Indies, or India, "where his days were few") ***************** Brick wall #6: Agnes Wylie, wife of Alexander Cuthbertson (fourth son of James C. and Margaret Shedden of Gardrumhill, Fenwick) ? we don't know her birthdate or family of origin, or her age at death. (They were married at Fenwick in April 1833 and immediately left for America. She died Sept. 1839) Any new leads will be deeply appreciated. All the best, Ken Cuthbertson Albuquerque, NM

Ken Will forward your e-mail to Wales. My cousin may have the answers. Alex may not be one of ours but she will know. I am the only Cuthbertson (that I know of) of our branch left in Australia. Hi Norma, Merry Christmas! None of our male-line Cuthbertsons made it to Australia. A couple of my ancestral aunts, Marion Cuthbertson Stevenson and her sister Jean Cuthbertson McMillan emigrated with their husbands in the late 1830s, and Marion -- at least -- left descendants that we've lost track of. Some descendants of another branch of our line settled in New Zealand. I know descendants of a couple of other Cuthbertson lines that are not (thus far) connected to mine who went out to Australia and New Zealand as well. But all were Scots. All the best to you and yours for a good New Year! Ken Cuthbertson Albuquerque, NM
There is still a Cuthbertson connection in Wales! Malcolm Cuthbertson b. Liverpool, lived in Wallasey, and moved to Wales at some stage. His son, Malcolm, also lived there and his daughter is still living in Wales, married to a clergyman. Malcolm's father was Jacob b. Glasgow and his fa. was Jacob b.? The Jacobs are listed somewhere as Cuthbert and from Ireland. We had been trying for them in Lanarkshire. If you think there is a connection for you, let me know, I will check our notes on the family. Anyone reading this e-mail who may also be connected, please let me know, my third cousin and I would love to hear from you. Hi, I was in contact last week with a lady whose husband is a descendant of James Cuthbertson b 25 August 1836 SCT [ the son of John Cuthbertson b 23 June 1797 SCT who was the son of the James who married Euphemia.] These names were new to me and may also be new to other researchers of this line. I have shown below the names only but readers interested in the Cuthbertson/Turner line should contact me off list if they are interested in more detail. I just did a quick look at the online version of the International Genealogical Index, under Alexander, John, and Mary Cuthbertson. The names that show up are mostly in Neath. There is an Alexander Cuthbertson whose wife is listed as Ann, who had several children in Neath up into the 1830s, including a William and a Margaret, besides Alex. and Mary, and maybe a John.... Ken C. Albuquerque, NM
Hmmm... I, for one, have never heard of Cuthbertsons in Wales before. Do you know the church -- i.e. establish church or "chapel" -- the wedding and baptism occurred in? It may make a difference as to whether there is the possibility of finding additional records. Do you know anything about Alexander's profession? Do you know the names of any other children, and their birth order? Those are my thoughts. All the best, Ken Cuthbertson Albuquerque, NM

Dear Heather Many thanks for your posting re James Cuthbertson and the mines. The daughter(Euphemia Cuthbertson) of his son John, who didn't go to Canada with the family, was my mother's paternal grandmother. My mother, being a second daughter, was called after her - Euphemia (Effie) Cuthbertson McCallum. You know all this from my husband David Millan. What courage or desperation they must have had to set off for their new life. I have a photo that someone posted of all the brothers and sister. I don't think that my mother knew any of this, although she did talk of Heugenot ancestors. I think this may have come out of someone's marriage to a French Canadian in Quebec. Sanj
