Herbert GLENN, 1610 East Twenty-sixth street, a helper at the Eighteenth street car barn, was killed in a street car accident at Eighteenth street and Jackson avenue at 8 o'clock last night. Several other people who were passengers on the car on which GLENN was riding were shaken up and injured, but not seriously. GLENN was riding on the front step of an extra Indiana car northbound on Jackson avenue. John WALKER, foreman of the car barn, was acting as motorman. The air brakes refused to work on the long slope on Jackson avenue north of Twentieth street and at Eighteenth street where the track turns, the car left the track, plunged over the curbing and stopped against an embankment. GLENN jumped and was killed when he struck an electric light pole. Another similar accident happened three hours later at St. John and Hardesty avenues when a Northeast car left the track, ran along on the pavement for forty feet and struck the front of a drug store owned by Frank ALCORN, completely wrecking it. Dr. J. C. BALL, 5622 Scarritt avenue, a passenger on the car, was seriously injured and B. A. CURTIS, the conductor, was badly bruised and cut by being thrown against the side of the car. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ====================================================== neirbo5
