Dear Grannygoose, I too am researching the Hunterdon Co., N.J. Curtis family. My ancestors include David Curtis b.1745 m. Elizabeth Smith 1766 in Monmouth Co.. Their son, David Curtis Jr. b. 1804 m. Rebecca Rodenbaugh. I have been trying to discover if Jonathan Curtis was father or brother to my David Sr. I am unable to find the parents of David Sr. I know the family were members of the Presbyterian Church in Clover Hill, N.J. David Jr. and his sons were associated with the Baptist Church in Baptisttown, N.J. The original minister of this church was a relative. The line is somehow linked to the original Quaker settlers of Burlington, N.J. and Philadelphia. If only I could confirm the association with the family through the parents of David Sr. Did the family of your Jonathan live in Monmouth Co.? Were they somehow associated with the Quakers? Did they farm anywhere near Clover Hill? Were they associated through the Smith family of Elizabeth? Mary Curtis was probably a sister to David and perhaps, Jonathan. Usually the Executor of a will was the husband or son-in-law of the deceased if he had no sons. At least I have found that to be true in my research. My grandmother, Eva Curtis Warner compiled a list of the children of David Jr. and Rebecca who were her grandparents. They had a daughter named Celinda Elizabeth Curtis b. April 30, 1836, and who had a daughter named Jane. I do not have a married name for Celinda. Could it be that Abel Johnson was married to Celinda? David and Rebecca had 11 children and 54 grandchildren. All or most of the grandchildren were born before 1900. Among them, I find no Christina. Could "Christina" be a nick name or middle name? What is her birth year? It was fun to read your email. I have been researching the Curtis family for years. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could find a connection that would answer questions for both of us? Please keep me informed as you progress with your research. Perhaps you have some record of Celinda's genealogy. My interest is for two reasons: why was (my) Christopher Johnson named as Executor and why did (my) Christopher Johnson name a son Jonathan Curtis Johnson? What is the connection between the Curtis and the Johnson family; is there a connection to a later marriage of Christopher's son, (my) Abel Johnson marrying a Christina Curtis for whom I have never been able to find parents- a birth- or anything? ==== CURTIS Mailing List ==== Up to date URL for genealogy mailing lists: <http://members.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html<http://members.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html>>
