Pauline: My Grandfather (or Grandmother) contributed a "bio" for the 1916 edition of the Encyclopedia of Massachusetts (Biograpical - Genealogical) printed by the American Historical Society (inc), New York, Boston, Chicago. I believe this was one of several companies that promised to produce a volume of outstanding persons of a community (including "you", if you paid them). In my grandfather's write up, it was stated that his great grandfather was "Minard (Myndert anglicized) Bogart, [who] died in Chatham, New York, a carpenter by trade. He married Catherine Curtis, born in Dutchess County, New York, [who] died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. [Harriet] Sumner I. Smith, in Whately, Massacusetts." We have determined that Minard was born in 1776, Catherine in ca 1889, an age difference of 23 years. (Was she a second wife?) The Bogart line is traceable to first immigrants to New Amsterdam. The Smith line is traceable to settlers of Whethersfield and Hadley. Have been unable to identify parentage of Catherine Curtis.
