Ruth, I am descended from the David Curtis family of Baptisttown in N.J. I believe that David and his wife Elizabeth Smith are cousins of the Rev. Thomas Curtis family but can not find a definite tie. Do you know if a grandson from Va. moved back to NJ with the Baptist branch of the family? My David was born 1763, I am not sure where, but he died in 1848 and is buried in Baptisttown. We already have a descendant of John Curtis who m. Anne Revell and to my delight the results confirmed the theory I developed after several years of intensive research--that this CURTIS line of Burlington County, NJ (Thomas Curtis b. about 1600 and a friend of George Fox) is related to Joshua Curtis RWS of Wilkes County, NC, Washington County, TN and Davidson County, TN as well as to my CURTIS cousin in Winston County, AL. My theory also involves a Jonathan Curtis who would have been a nephew of your John Curtis if my information based on the research on others is correct. This Jonathan Curtis was the brother of a Primitive Baptist minister Rev. Thomas Curtis who died in Baptistown, NJ about 1749 if my memory serves me here. Jonathan Curtis left NJ sometime after 1706 and in 1719 was living in the Cecil and Baltimore County, MD (probably Deer Creek area which is now Harford County). By 1735 he was in Orange County, VA and died in Berkeley County, WV around 1757. His son or grandson was (I think, no proof yet) Samuel Curtis who went to the Yadkin River area of western NC and was part of the Sandy Creek Baptist community in Rowan County, NC. He was a Regulator as were many in this community, which means he was a part of the pre Revolutionary movement. We will soon have the DNA results of a descendant of this Jonathan Curtis of Berkeley County, WV and hopefully this will further confirm my theory.
