Feb. 14 - Joseph Curtis met instant death in mine no 4 at this place late yesterday afternoon by the fall of the slate. Will Wolf was also caught by the slate but escaped with a sprang ankle. The mine was crowded with workers at the time, and several rushed to the assistance of Curtis, but when his body was removed from the pile of slate, it was cold in death. The remains were taken to Lucas today for burial. His parents live at Lucas. I am not related to this person nor have any further information.
