Surnames: CURTIS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TmQ.2ACIB/2005.3.1 Message Board Post: Are you referring to William Baker Curtis, a brigadier general of the 12th WV (Union army) in the Civil War? He was the son of Josiah Curtis (b. 1794 Hagerstown MD, m. 1820 in Washington Co. MD to Hester Ernsparger). Josiah was the son of John Curtis (b. 1750 in Wales, m. Ealsy Wilkins of Baltimore MD) John Curtis served in the American Revolution and he and his children settled in Ohio Co. VA in 1832. Source: History of the Upper Ohio Valley, pub. 1890. James Curtis of Ohio Co. VA/WV (b. ca 1754) had children born from 1776 to about 1798, sons were Salathiel, John, James, and none of them had a son named William. Although these two Curtis families settled in the same place, there is no known link between them.
