I am new to the list and am in search of some Curtis connections. The particular branch of the huge CURTIS family that I am researching called Croydon, Surrey, England home in the 1880's. Other surrounding areas in which I have found information about this family are Lambeth Surrey, Norwood Surrey and Saham Norfolk. Taken from the 1901 England census Database: 1901 England Census ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name Estimated Birth Year Birthplace Relationship Civil Parish County/Island View Image James Curtis abt 1861 Croydon, Surrey, England Head Croydon Surrey James Curtis abt 1885 Kennington, Surrey, England Son Croydon Surrey John Curtis abt 1890 Croydon, Surrey, England Son Croydon Surrey William Curtis abt 1893 Croydon, Surrey, England Son Croydon Surrey Ada Hogsden abt 1892 Lambeth, Surrey, England Duar Of Above Croydon Surrey Mary Hogsden abt 1868 Dulwich, Surrey, England Housekeeper Croydon Surrey There was also one daughter, Ethel Curtis (1887), who was working in Middlesex as a maid at the time of the survey. James's (1861) wife Matilda (Mead) Curtis died about 1893 - a date which coincides with the birth of her fourth child, William. John (1890) and Ethel (1887) immigrated to Manitoba, Canada in the early 1900's. James (1885) died when the British munitions ship the Vanguard blew up at Scapa Flow, Scotland in July 1917. He was survived by his wife Charlotte Curtis. Because neither son John nor daughter Ethel kept in touch with family in England I have no idea what became of the youngest son, William. Here's hoping someone has some information on these Curtis's. John (1890) was my grandfather. I would especially love some info. on James' wife Charlotte and youngest child William. Best regards, Karen (Curtis) Bartlette BC, Canada
