I found these documents in the Dutchess Co., NY Surrogate's office while researching my Skinner ancestors. To the Surrogate of the County of Dutchess The Petition of Samuel Curtis, a brother in law of Rosabella Skinner late of Stanford, dec'd Respectfully sheweth, that said Rosabella Skinner late of the town of Stanford in the county of Dutchess, deceased, died in the said town of Stanford on or about the 15th day of February 1827: That at or immediately preceding the time of her death, she was an inhabitant of said county of Dutchess: that the said deceased has left no will and testament, as far as your petitioner has been able to discover or has heard, knows, or believes; that in the opinion of your petitioner it is necessary that administration of the estate of the said deceased be granted to some discreet person that said dec'd has left no father or children ___ surviving and that the wife of your petitioner is the sister of the deceased. And your petitioner further shows, that all the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased do not exceed in value the sum of $2,500.00. Your petitioner therefore prays that he your petitioner may be appointed Administrator of the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased, and he will ever pray, &c. Dated the 27th day of February 1827 Signed:Samuel Curtis To the Surrogate of Dutchess County I, Anna Kinney, of Amenia, mother of Rosabella Skinner late of Stanford deceased do hearby renounce and relinquish my right to administration of the estate of the said deceased, and I do request the Surrogate of said County of Dutchess to appoint my son in law Samuel Curtis administrator of said estate in my stead. Dated Feb. 27, 1827 Anna Kinney her "X" mark Dutchess County Surrogates Office ___: Be it remembered that on the 6th day of March 1827, before me, personally appeared Alva Curtis who being duly sworn say that she saw Anna Kinney the mother of Rosabell Skinner dec'd sign and execute the forgoing renunciation by her affixing her mark thereto.
