    3. Hello List, I'm looking for information on Arthur B. (Baldwin) Curtis, proprietor of Curtis Furniture Co. in Washington, D.C., probably in the 1940s and 1950s. I particularly want to know if he is/was from Ireland. Thanks. Pat, in Texas

    3. If he was the same Arthur B. Curtis listed in DC census in 1910, then he was probably not Irish. He is listed as mulatto, which could include some Irish parentage or even Native American. He was single, 28, a lodger at 541 Florida Ave., in a mixed black and mulatto neighborhood, b NE, parents b NE, occupation was a stenographer with the Interior Dept. 1910>District of Columbia>WASHINGTON>ED 159 Series: T624 Roll: 153 Page: 92 CURTIS ARTHUR B 28 M M NE DC WASHINGTON ED 159 ================================= There was another Arthur B. Curtis in 1900 in DC, white, 24,b MA, parents b MA, md 1 yr. to Katherine, also 24,b MA, parents b WALES. Occup: draughtsman (gov't). He lived a 317 Maryland Ave. NE at the time. 1900 > District of Columbia>WASHINGTON> WASHINGTON Series: T623 Roll: 163 Page: 240 CURTIS ARTHUR B 24 M W MA DC WASHINGTON WASHINGTON ================================ I suppose your guy could be either one of these, though they would both be a little old for a store in the 1950s. Do you know the address of the store? I lived in the DC area in the late 1950s. You might want to try to check a 1920 or better a 1930 census. Sorry, I don't have those. Also old DC directories for the man, the store address, etc. if you can locate them. I think the Nat'l Archives has a lot of the old directories on microfilm. --- Patricia J Salis <pjsalis@hal-pc.org> wrote: > I'm looking for information on Arthur B. > (Baldwin) Curtis, proprietor of Curtis > Furniture Co. in Washington, D.C., probably in > the 1940s and 1950s. 3. There was a chain of Curtis Brothers Furniture Stores in Washington, DC in the 50's and I think they were still in existence until the early 70's. Carolyn Curtis

    3. Mulatto means the child of mixed origin = a child of a Negro and a white person. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Genie" <genielists@yahoo.com> To: <CURTIS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 02, 2004 12:29 PM Subject: Re: [CURTIS] Arthur B.(Baldwin) Curtis, Wash.
